TMI Productions gave Jackson State University students a chance to showcase their talents at the Hair and Fashion Expo presented Sunday, Sept. 16 at the Jackson Convention Complex.
There were a total 13 designers and salons that showcased their talents at the event.
Kristopher Campbell, a former JSU student and creator of the urban t-shirt line “The Life Style” was one of the designers showcased at the fashion expo.
“I always dreamed of having my own clothing line. I tried to have it the first semester of college but I paid some dudes $600 and didn’t even receive a product. I almost gave up but I didn’t.” said Campbell.
Campbell also explained how he got his inspiration for his urban t-shirt line.
“The Life Style embodies the grind, the struggle, the pain, the hurt just for the quest to get to the lifestyle that we crave,” said Campbell.
The majority of Campbell’s models in the fashion show were JSU students. TMI Productions takes pride in giving people an opportunity to showcase their talent.
“TMI Productions has been hosting shows for seven years. We were just in Hattiesburg, Miss. last week but we have come to Jackson hoping to show some new flavor,” said Elliott Jackson, General Manager of TMI Productions.
He added, “My first impression was that I really don’t do t-shirt lines in my shows but TMI Productions tries to give the up and coming designers and hairstylists a chance. We also let them showcase their work for free.”
Tamika Smith, a senior marketing major from Chicago, Illi. and Marketing Liaison of the event, explained how much work went into making the Hair and Fashion Expo come to life.
“It took a year prior to the event because there is a lot of planning and venues that needed to be called. Also making sure your workers, staff, and sponsorships are in order,” said Smith.
TMI Productions is always looking for new talent to showcase in their events. For more information about TMI Productions you can visit their website at tmiproductions.org.
