Lipstick’s long reign is not yet over as bold shades make an entrance into this year’s fashion. This summer, lipstick is being incorporated into many women’s wardrobes to give a polished look.

In the past during this time of the year, nude lips are paired with bold eye colors for more natural tones, but this isn’t the case this summer. Instead this season’s trends are toning it down with the heavy eye makeup and taking a more flirty approach with shades of rambunctious reds, orgasmic oranges, and pouty pink hues.

The notorious red lipstick is making an even bigger appearance in this season’s fashion lip trends.  This shade usually associated with formal evening looks, is now being considered as casual look also. According to Bazaar, red shades should be worn against bare skin and along with a subtle hairdo to portray a super modern day time look.

Pink lip color, primarily worn in hues of soft rose and lilac are a must for those sophisticated looks this summer. However, this season we are also seeing a brighter explosion of color with shades in neon and fuchsia establishing that pink can have a little attitude as well. According to KW, these brighter shades of pink are meant to pop, causing the once faint-hearted timid look, to make a bold fashion statement. Pink hues tend to compliment all skin tones and require no makeup so feel free to spice it up!

Samantha Hall, a junior English education major from Carthage, Miss., said she is into red and pink lip colors because they flatter her skin tone.

“I love both red and pink lip shades because they go so well with my complexion,” said Hall.

Orange or coral lipstick is the hottest edition to lip fashion this year. This shade, which has been given the reputation of being too daring, is being seen on all runways this season. The citrusy shade is best worn in a matte finish to add a bright, flirty look appeal. According to World Beauty Portal, orange lipstick is compatible with all skin tones. Apparently the brighter the skin tone the darker shade of orange should be applied. Also, neon orange has been seen on many runways by designers such as Louise Grey making a not so subtle approach. As tempting as this lip shade is it may not be suitable to wear leisurely. But if you do decide to pull it off, MAC artist, Jane McCay says that it will look best paired with light to no make-up at all.

Shanta Webb, a junior social work major from Mobile, Ala., said that she loves different lipstick hues, but that she isn’t too sure about orange.

“I am kind of skeptical of the orange lipstick and that it fits all skin tones,” said Webb. “I like to step out of my boundaries, so if orange is in, I will definitely be trying it.”

With these bold new lip shades, one is sure to make a fabulous grand entrance into this summer 2k13! So slick on some bold lipstick and kiss summer in with the hottest lip shade of the season. Muah!
