The Jackson State University volleyball team overpowered Mississippi Valley State University at Hyper Complex 3-1 (25-23, 25-23, 24-26, 25-14) on Tuesday evening.
The Lady Tigers (4-16, 2-2) struggled in their first two sets putting MVSU away. JSU won each set by a total margin of four points, dropping Valley in each set, 25-23.
Freshman outside hitter Kennede Banks led Jackson State offensively in the victory over Miss. Valley. The Plano, Texas native tallied 13 kills, eight digs, and four block assists.
Sophomore setter Jenna Siddiqui led the ladies in assists with 29 total; while freshman defensive specialist Karmen Jackson led the Lady Tigers defensively by recording 18 digs on the night.
Jackson State will host Grambling State University at the T.B. Ellis Gymnasium on Friday, Oct. 18 beginning at 6 p.m. We will also have a ring ceremony for winning the 2012 Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship.
