The Jackson State University Tigers will take on the Alabama State University Hornets this Saturday at the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The Tigers enter the matchup 3-0, while the ASU Hornets are 2-1.
Last year JSU defeated ASU 19-7 during JSU’s homecoming game.
JSU was the first to score when 3 points resulted from kicker Eric Perri’s 46-yard field goal. The first touchdown was scored by Bloi-Dei Dorzon towards the end of the first quarter with 5:11 on the clock. Quarterback Dedric Mcdonald made the last touchdown for JSU after a 1-yard run with nearly a minute remaining in the first quarter. Perri gave JSU its final points after a 40-yard field goal near halftime.
ASU only scored during the second quarter after quarterback Chris Mitchell made a connection with Nichola Andrews for a touchdown pass of 6 yards.
Last year, ASU managed to defeat JSU at Cramton Bowl Stadium during . The final score was 32-30.
Two passing touchdowns resulted from JSU’s Casey Therriault. He also rushed for two touchdowns. He made many contributions but they weren’t enough for JSU to win overall. This loss resulted in JSU dropping to 6-3 overall.
Devin Dominguez of ASU gave the Hornets their lead after throwing four touchdown passes to three receivers.
This year, the Tigers will battle the Hornets here in Jackson at 4 p.m.
