The Latasha Norman Center for Counseling and Psychological Services at Jackson State University has recently released an informational touch screen kiosk located in the H.T. Sampson Library, first floor reference area. There is also one in the Jackson Medical Mall.
The main goal of the kiosks is to provide information to students on what services the Latasha Norman Center provides. The LNC, located on the 2nd floor of the Student Center assists students with problem-solving skills, managing relationships, and provides counseling services.
At this kiosk, students and other will find an interactive way to gain information about various issues such as mental health, alcohol abuse, domestic violence, depression, and more. The kiosk also features a link to a stduent health magazine that gives tips about balancing and keeping good mental and physical health.
Another feature of the kiosk is the opportunity to take a survey about services related to the LNC.
Two students who used the kiosk said they found it to be informative about various subjects.
“The kiosk survey was very informative. I learned a lot about domestic violence that I ddin’t know. I’m glad that JSU is being proactive in getting out the word on domestic violence, in hopes of preventing any future incidents of violence as it relates to students.,” said Willie Mosely, a senior mass communications major from Pelahatchie, Miss.
LaToya Young, a freshman biology major from Tchula, Miss., said: “Using the kiosk was a good experience. Doing the survey taught me how serious domestic violence is. The survey was not trying to get all in my business but was trying to teach me the importance of preventing domestic violence. It did not take long so I would recommend a lot of people to go do the survey.”
The Center is named for Latasha Norman, a 20 year old accounting major, who was the victim of domestic violence in 2007.
LNC Web Developer Godwin Eduadu’-Boateng, said: “The center is for students who are experiencing problems with academics or anything else where they feel stress and just want someone to talk to, the center can help them.”
