Chicago & Company express themselves through dance

The Chicago and Company dance group is known as one of the most energetic, sensational, heart throbbing dance groups on Jackson State University’s campus right now.

Bringing their Chicago flavor to the South and introducing new dance moves to all,  C&C was established on March 27, 2011 and has in many showcases and talent shows on campus.

“My goal is to start a legacy at Jackson State for students from all different places to share their dance style with our peers on campus,” said team captain Darwin Stewart, a junior business administration major.

Jovonne Brooks, co-captain and senior mass communications major added “our mission for the group is to share our style and creativity and to show that Chicago is not just a place that produces criminals .  We actually have talent and are heading in the right direction.”

Chicago and Company won 1st place at the Sigma Gamma Rho talent show in the Spring 2011 semester in their first performance as a group. The also won 2nd place in both the 2011 spring and fall AKApollo shows.

C&C members shared why they joined the group.

“I love my dance group. We work hard to put on great shows and entertain our audience and supporters. Throw your C’s up,” said head dance choreographer Kyle Davis, a sophomore mass communications major.

“There’s nothing more I like to do than to represent my city, and being on C&C gives me the perfect opportunity to do just that,” said sophomore biology major Patrick Brumfield.

Joy Bailey, a sophomore elementary education major said, “Being in Chicago and Company makes me feel like I’m back at home, I’ve come to love the members of C&C my own little family away from home.”

“I am apart of Chicago and Chicago because it gives me something positive to do and I love putting a smile on people faces,” said freshman business administration major Yazmine Brown.

Jazmin Anderson, a freshman theater arets major said, “My reasons for dancing with C&C is because I love dancing and it helps me express myself also showing how we dance and where we come from.”

“A mind is a terrible thing to waste and I joined the group for the family vibe, I am a people person,” said sophomore mass communication major Nikyta Wilkins.

Chanquilla Quinn, a sophomore criminal justice major said, “I’m a member of C&C because I love to dance, I have many flaws but I take most of them and create a unique style of my own. I also love my teammates because they accept me as I am and we’ve created a bond, like a big family.”

“I joined C&C because I love to dance. Being in this dance group teaches me a lot about friendship and being a family. It’s always good to learn new things, I’m glad I joined the team,” said Brandi Cheatham, a sophomore healthcare administration major.

Chicago and Company perform off campus as well and have  performed in a Drill Team Competition at Hardy Middle School, and have many different venues reaching out to them.

The majority of all members are from Chicago except for a few. Group members include Darwin Stewart, Jovonne Brooks, Kyle Davis, James White, Jazmyn Owens, Chanquilla Quinn, Jazmin Anderson, Joy Bailey, Patrick Brumfield, Nikyta Wilkins, Brandi Cheatham, Brittany Jones and Yazmine Brown.
