Class is back in session which means new fashion trends are on the horizon at Jackson State University. Some college students have to balance everything from homework, bills, and even staying fashion forward.
Here are some tips and trends you can follow that may help boost your look while keeping your budget intact.
Look Good, Save Money
JSU is located in Mississippi which means the summer season is extended due to the hot climate. This works out in your advantage, especially when shopping online and in-store. While store favorites like Forever 21, H & M, GAP, Banana Republic, etc. are already catering to fall trends, all or most of the summer apparel has gone straight to the clearance racks.
These summer clearance items are usually marked down 50-80 percent off the original price. Those sale items will give you more bang for your buck.
Be Bold, Be Different
Originality is the key when going to a university that has more than 8,000 students enrolled. Step outside the box and create your own style. Do-It-Yourself projects are a great way to make your own trends. For example, If you cannot find that pair of distressed jeans you have been looking for; simply go to a thrift store and purchase a pair of vintage denim jeans and distress them yourself. It is guaranteed that no one else will have them.
Doing DIY’s will save you money but it will also set you apart. Anything you can think about making, a tutorial video of the project can be found on YouTube or in the Google search engine.
Having those two tips in mind can guide anyone on staying fashionable throughout the semester. There are also trends in the fashion forecast that will emerge on campus in the upcoming months.
As we know trends repeat themselves. Now more than ever the ‘tom-boy chic’ look from the early 1990s is back. This is a fun yet comfy look for college girls. Over-sized or fitting baseball jersey’s, cute mini tee-shirts, overalls, platform tennis shoes, crew necks, sheer/ mesh tops, repeat print graphic tees, and denim shirts matched with denim bottoms are all currently trending.
In men’s fashion, it’s all about precision. Guys, you might want to start stepping your game up because according to GQ magazine they are urging you to ‘go from man, to gentleman’ this fall. Pinstriped button up shirts, cardigans, bow ties, satchel/messenger bags, sports blazer with bold prints are all suggested and trending.
