Essence of a Lady Tiger holds launch party

The classic sounds of Beyonce’ blasted through the speakers of the Student Center Ballroom decorated in purple and tiffany blue and plenty of glitter on Sept. 24, as members of Essence of a Lady Tiger kicked off the year with their annual launch party “Launching Into Your Essence.”

EOLT, was organized to help young ladies matriculate through the university successfully with the help of those who have walked in their shoes.  The group also strives to unite and empower freshmen ladies through mentorship and network opportunities.

“We have a launch party every year to introduce new members to our organization. We give them information on Essence of a Lady Tiger as a whole and also talk about the different committees we have within our organization,” said Vinechia Johnson, a senior communicative disorders majors from New Orleans, La.

Johnson serves as the 1st Vice-President for the organization.  It is her second time serving on the executive board.

EOLT has many more components besides mentoring.  Committees within Essence of a Lady Tiger include Community Service, HER Bible Study, Social Media, Special Events, RISK, and College Girl Chronicles.

The chair of College Girl Chronicles is Diamond McCray, a junior political science major from Magnolia, Miss.

“College Girl Chronicles is a series in which we get personal and intimate with the members.  We host panel discussions and forums that are relative to the life of a college girl,” explained McCray.

Approxiamately one hundred girls attended the launch party.  Among those one hundred was Jaslyn Seals, a junior elementary education major from Canton, Miss.

“This launch party made me excited to see what Essence of a Lady Tiger has in store for us this year,” said Seals.  “This will be my third year in the organization and they never disappoint.”

Any ladies who attend Jackson State University and are interested in joining Essence of a Lady Tiger are encouraged to go to www.theeeolt.com and download an application. Applications are due on Oct. 23, 2015.
