JSU dazzles fans with thrilling victory over Southern [GALLERY]

The Jackson State University men’s basketball team pulled off an exciting win against the Jaguars of Southern University on Feb. 8 at the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center. JSU is now 8-3 in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play and 13-11 overall.

This was the second meeting between the two teams. Southern won the first game 74-66 on Jan. 11.

JSU junior guard Chace Franklin from Desoto, Texas scored 20 points including the winning 3-pointer with .8 seconds left on the clock in the second match-up.

JSU guards contributed outstanding play to help the Tigers take the win.

Sophomore guard Paris Collins from San Antonio, Texas, had a double-double with 18 points and a career high 15 rebounds. Senior guard Raeford “Gator” Worsham from Waynesboro, Miss., had a double-double also with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

The Tigers were down 50-34 at halftime. Junior guard Dontaveon Robinson from Jackson, Miss., lead the Tigers with 2 steals. The Tigers won the points in the paint game with 42 points compared to SU 24 points and the points off a turnover with 12 points compared to SU 8 points.

Also JSU won second chance points off offense rebounds and fast break points down the court. In the second half, the Tigers outscored the Jaguars on a 47-30 run. The Tigers also shot better in the second half with field goals and 3-point field goals.

JSU Tigers will return to action Saturday, Feb. 13th when the men Tigers travel to Houston, Texas to take on the Tigers of Texas Southern University at the Health and Physical Education Arena. The game will start at 5:30 p.m.
