Jackson State University men’s basketball team dropped a 57-72 contest against the Tigers of Grambling State University on Jan. 21 at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center in Grambling, La. JSU is now 3-4 in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play and 7-13 overall.

This was the fourth straight loss for the Tigers whose last win was against Southern University Jaguars on Jan. 9.

The Tigers are now in 6th place in SWAC conference standings behind three of the last teams they have lost a game to. JSU has 11 more conference games to change the outcome of the season.

If the team finishes in the top four of the SWAC, they can host a playoff game to start off the SWAC tournament on a fast note.

JSU junior guard Derek Roscoe from Chicago, Ill., led the team with 14 points with 5 of 10 field goal shooting. Junior guard Maurice Rivers from Atlanta, Ga., led JSU with 9 rebounds. Sophomore guard Edric Dennis from Dallas, Texas, added 4 assists for the Tigers.

Jackson State turned the ball over 18 times compared to Grambling’s 8, a foreboding stat that led to the defeat. JSU also had foul trouble for most of the game. Grambling State’s bench outscored the JSU bench by 3 points.

GSU led the game from start to finish with 3-point shooting. It was an even match in the field goal percentages between both teams. JSU out rebounded Grambling on the boards.

JSU junior guard Paris Collins from San Antonio, Texas, could make his return from a broken bone in his hand this Saturday against Mississippi Valley State University. The Tigers have been playing with five scholarship players due to injury. Senior guard Chace Franklin from Dallas, Texas, will be out for the season due to injury.

JSU will return to action Saturday, Jan 28 when the men’s team faces their in-state rival, the Delta Devils of MVSU. They will meet the Golden Lions of Arkansas Pine Bluff on the court on Monday, Jan 30 at the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center.

The games will start at 5:30 p.m. To listen to the game on the radio, you can tune into 95.5 FM. The game will also be broadcast on JSUTV.
