Love Jones
If romance is the ambiance you are aiming for, “Love Jones” is a must-see.  Released in 1997, the movie never gets old, just better with time. In the film, Darius Lovehall (Larenz Tate) is a young black poet in Chicago who starts dating Nina Moseley (Nia Long), a beautiful and talented photographer. While trying to figure out just what type of relationship they have, as in “true love” or “friends with benefits”, the two embark on relationship journey filled with laughter, heartache, jealousy, romance and finally love. This movie appeals to both men and women.

Love & Basketball
A love that stands the test of time, distance and problems is chronicled in the film “Love & Basketball”.  Monica (Sanaa Lathan) and Quincy (Omar Epps) are childhood neighbors whose love-hate relationship begins in elementary school and lasts until adulthood.  The two share an almost obsessive love for basketball with dreams of going pro. Years later, the two are reunited as both have found themselves at a crossroads in their careers. Monica, returns to America after years of playing professional basketball overseas and Quincy, sidelined due to a career ending injury.

Hitch
Sure to put a smile on the face of that special Valentine, “Hitch” is a somewhat underrated movie that many have missed out on. The plot delves into the lives of Hitch (Will Smith), a professional “date doctor” who is on a mission to help socially awkward and not so physically appealing Albert (Kevin James) find true love. However, during the process, Hitch is also hit with Cupid’s arrow when he meets gossip columnist, Sara (Eva Mendes).  Comedy and romance, ingredients for a perfect date night.

Something New
This 2005 film, which stars Sanaa Lathan (Kenya) and Simon Baker (Brian), is a sleeper that deserves to be awakened. The movie deals with the problems of an interracial romance, an issue still relevant today. Reminiscent of the classic “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner”, Kenya McQueen is an accountant who finds love when she agrees to go on a blind date with Brian Kelly, a sexy and free-spirited landscaper.  Love, of course, conquers all and makes this a great film choice for Valentine’s Day

About Last Night
A remake of the 1986 film of the same name, “About Last Night” is a romantic comedy made all the more hilarious with star Kevin Hart (Bernie).  Further juicing up the movie is the gorgeous character Danny (Michael Ealy) who is just nice to look at lol.  Regina Hall (Joan) and Joy Bryant (Debbie) round out this star-studded cast that follows two couples as they journey from the bar to the bedroom with many life challenges thrown in between.  Hook-ups, break-ups and make-ups, although a constant in most romantic comedy’s seem brand new with the hilarious and sometime poignant portrayals of these actors. Don’t take my word for, check it out for yourself.
