If you are a Wolverine fan of the renowned Marvel Superhero group X-Men, be prepared to shed a few tears, get a few laughs, and binge watch all the past movies with our favorite pessimistic, heart slashing superhero.
For those of you who have heard correctly, this is the last movie for our superhero crush Wolverine, and if you haven’t seen the movie, this is a spoiler alert.
Actor Hugh Jackman has portrayed Wolverine for 17 years and nine movies, but the actor did his final performance of Wolverine in his character self-entitled movie “Logan.”
“Logan,” based off the comic book “Old Man Logan”, which was released in June 2008, takes place in the near future where mutants are on the brink of extinction and the X-Men that we grew up with and come to love, are now long gone.
James “Logan” Howlett formerly known as Wolverine, is slowly dying and his healing process has severely weakened, but that doesn’t stop our favorite hero from putting on an action packed ending to his amazing story.
Logan is also joined in the film by Professor Xavier, who has also aged and has health issues affecting his telepathic ability, and a new generation of mutants, that are genetically the sons and daughters of some of our favorite earlier mutants, are now coming into their own.
The movie does not include other members of the X-Men such as: Storm, Jean Grey, Rogue, Beast, Bobby, Night Crawler and Cat, but the writers of this film did an amazing job in filling us in to what exactly led to mutant extinction.
In the year 2029, Logan is taking care of the now senile Professor X, who has recently been classified as a Weapon of Mass Destruction by the government due to his frequent telepathic seizures, which inadvertently killed several civilians and X-Men.
Logan and former enemy turned friend, Caliban, are now taking care of the elderly Professor X and are trying to keep his seizures at bay until Professor X finds a friend in a new mutant on the run.
The new mutant, Laura, makes a connection with Professor X, telepathically of course, until they finally come face to face in the most dramatic way.
Laura is a DNA clone of Wolverine and an escaped experiment from Transigen, a facility run by Dr. Zander Rice, who is the surgical head of Transigen.
She was created for the purpose of becoming a weapon of war in a project called X-23. Logan and Xavier learn through a video phone that Transigen was breeding mutant children using DNA samples from several mutants for the “X-23” project. Upon completion of the “X-24” project, the children were deemed obsolete and were to be terminated. Several children escaped with the help of several nurses who connected with the children from the Transigen compound.
Laura leads Logan and Professor X on a journey to “Eden” a meeting ground for all of the escapee children in North Dakota, but of course there are villains chasing the young mutant.
Donald Pierce, the evil and sarcastic head of security for Transigen, is on the warpath to retrieve Laura by any means necessary.
Pierce and his legion of followers attack Logan, Professor X and Caliban, eventually capturing Caliban and using him to track his mutant friends.
This leads to multiple showdowns between Pierce and Logan before Pierce finally tracks down the mutants and kills a family holding the mutants and Professor X in their home using X-24, which just happens to be an exact clone of Wolverine himself.
Laura and Logan take on Pierce, his men and X-24 in what is the best barn fight I have ever seen, until the majority of Pierce men have been subdued, including X-24.
Logan, who is now extremely wounded, escapes with Laura and buries Professor X before Wolverine faints from his wounds and is driven to the emergency clinic by his 11 year old companion.
Things seem to good to be true when Logan and Laura finally find refuge in “Eden” with the rest of the escaped children from Transigen.
A drone following the pair into the mountains locates the escapees and eventually captures all of the children except Laura, who is hiding out in the woods.
Logan eventually shows up after being left behind by the children and a fight ensues between him and X-24.
Laura kills X-24 with an ado bullet, but not before Logan is impaled by a tree trunk.
This is the saddest moment ever. Logan gives Laura words of encouragment and recognizes her as his daughter and Laura finally calls him “daddy” and then Logan eventually takes his last breath.
According to comicbook.com, “Logan” was released March 3, 2017 and is the most successful Wolverine movie of all time.
