What would you do if you had it all? A famous professional boxer as a father, money to last you for the rest of your life, and social media fame? If you are Iyanna Mayweather, you stab the mother of your boyfriend’s child.
Mayweather was held in Houston’s Harris County jail after getting arrested at on April 4, 2020 after an altercation inside her boyfriend, rapper NBA Youngboy’s home.
TMZ was the first to arrive on the scene. Law enforcement sources told TMZ, the alleged victim and NBA Youngboy were home when Mayweather arrived and told the victim, Lapattra Lashai Jacobs, that she was Youngboy’s fiance and Jacobs should leave the house. This started the argument between the two.
TMZ reports that the argument moved into the kitchen, where Mayweather reportedly stabbed Jacobs with two knives.
When EMTs arrived, Jacobs was laying on the floor. Video leaked to social media of Youngboy’s kitchen after the attack shows blood everywhere.
Desiree Ferrell, a sophomore finance major from Tuscaloosa, Ala., feels strongly about how the situation escalated.
“I think it’s crazy she stabbed someone over a man. Especially when he has shown in the past how he feels about her by making the song ‘Dirty Iyanna’,”
According to E! News, Jacobs, a 25-year-old black female, sustained non-life threatening injuries, mostly to the arm and was in stable condition.
Harris County Constable’s Office released a statement that read, “There was a male witness who was briefly detained without incident and once it was determined that he was strictly a witness, he was released.”
Shortly after, Mayweather made an appearance at the scene of the arrest on NBA Youngboy’s Instagram livestream.
NBA Youngboy took to Instagram to address comments made by fellow rapper Kodak Black. Black, who made the posts from prison, criticized NBA Youngboy for cooperating with the police.
“The hell they mean fully cooperated LOL. They ain’t say a lil piece bit, they say fully big. Anyways, man that word ain’t even posed to be attached to your name,” Kodak wrote in the comments of a celebrity gossip Instagram post.
“Dam lil bra, don’t do dat lil girl like dat man. I mean I’m locked up, but this [explicit] got it lookin’ like if it was some Otha [explicit] you’ll tell something,” he continued.
Youngboy responded by denying the claims that he cooperated with the police, defended Mayweather by calling her his “wife”, and even called out Floyd Mayweather’s parenting skills.
Tawanda Thomas, attorney for St. Charles Parrish stated, “If the incident occurred at his house, NBA Youngboy would have to comply with the police. There’s no way around it.”
Mayweather was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. If convicted on the charge, Mayweather could be charged with a $10,000 fine or receive up to 99 years in prison.
However, it’s unlikely she will receive the maximum sentence, considering she does not appear to have a criminal history.
Mayweather is also being represented by Kurt Schaffer, a famed attorney who has worked for celebrities like Slim Thug, Pimp C, and Rap-A-Lot Records CEO, J Prince.
“Iyanna is doing fine; although she remains shaken by this unfortunate incident,” Schaffer reported to Bossip representatives.
Ferrell believes Mayweather will definitely be affected by this situation stating, “NBA Youngboy will continue to thrive, in my opinion, because unfortunately men can recover from taboo situations like this one. However for Iyanna, this will haunt her forever regardless if she beats the charges.”
Jordan Thompson, a sophomore business administration major from Birmingham, Ala. has a different perspective.
“As a person, it makes me feel as though NBA Youngboy doesn’t really respect women just by the way he talks to them and looking at previous situations he has been involved in,” said Thompson.
Lapattra Jacobs, the victim, issued a response on Instagram to the verbal abuse she’s endured since the incident took place.
“Y’all steady throwing evil comments at me like for what[.] Y’all don’t know me. If y’all was in my shows then y’all would feel the same way. I’m over the place this some [explicit] I never experience & wouldn’t want nobody to,” she wrote.
She continued, “I don’t care bout no money. I care about healing, getting over this & being strong. Then y’all saying I wanted this who wants something like this to happen to them that’s crazy.”
After reading this post, Ferrell exclaimed “I wouldn’t want my child around him [NBA Youngboy] if Iyanna was still around. Especially because that is putting my child in harm’s way and teaching them that erratic behavior is ok, when it’s not.”
Jacobs has continued to show public support for NBA Youngboy. Most recently, she shared Youngboy’s “38 Baby 2” album on her page and encouraged her followers to stream it.
