<\/a>Special to the Flash<\/strong><\/p>\n Dr. Calvin Mackie, an award-winning mentor, critically acclaimed author, and internationally renowned motivational speaker brought a message of hope and challenge to the newly elected members of the Student Government Association at Jackson State University yesterday.<\/p>\n Mackie admonished student leaders to hold on to the hope of great people like Nelson Mandela, George Washington Carver and President Barack Obama. He also urged them to have standards, structure and a strategy as they step into their leadership roles.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen you have\u00a0 structure, discipline and standards, things change. God has impregnated all of us with something that only we can do\u2026 there can be no abortion for your dreams,\u201d siad Mackie.<\/p>\n Mackie shared his personal story about growing up in New Orleans and how his challenges with a low SAT score pushed him to academic excellence. He completed his degree in mathematics, graduating Magna Cum Laude and a member of the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa National Honor Society.
