Students and others at Jackson State University and throughout Mississippi watched the weather Tuesday in anticipation of Hurricane Isaac making landfall.\u00a0 By mid-day, Issac had become a category one storm.<\/p>\n

Some students shared their comments about the approaching hurricane.<\/p>\n

Alex Washington, a criminal justice sophomore Jackson, Miss. said, “I am preparing\u00a0 for the possible hurricane by taking cover by any means necessary. From experiencing Hurricane Katrina and getting the horrible weather, not having power, and just seeing the overall disaster the hurricane caused, I hope that it wont be as bad as I am thinking.”<\/p>\n

Mass Communications junior Drake Allen from Laurel, Miss., said: “It hasn’t hit me yet that this [Tropical Storm Isaac] could be very detrimental to Jackson. I do not like this kind of weather, because it ruins everything. I wish that the campus had a little bit more notification as to what preventative measures students have to take, at this point.”<\/p>\n

Kyra Tenner, a sophomore social work major from Vicksburg, Miss., said: “I’m anxious about this storm, because everyone is talking about evacuating. I have to make sure all of my friends and I are aware of the situation. This is very serious.”<\/p>\n

Tenner, a commuter student added:\u00a0 “I’m making sure I buy plenty of water and I think it’s a good idea to cook foods or have dry foods to eat just in case the power goes out.”<\/p>\n

After 2 p.m. Tuesday, JSU officials announced that the campus would close down on Wednesday, but that residence halls will remain open along with campus food and other basic\u00a0 services.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
