Movies have the ability to provide insight in many different situations. In many
\nways movies provide a form of escape from what is happening in real life or provide\u00a0educational opportunities to learn about different topics.<\/p>\n

They also invoke the ability to feel various emotions without having to experience
\nany of the events that led to the emotions directly.<\/p>\n

During the month of October, for obvious reasons, watching movies about breast\u00a0cancer can do all these things and more.<\/p>\n

For instance, \u201cA Fault in our Stars\u201d, an award-winning film released in 2014, heavily\u00a0covered the love, life, and death of young teens who have been diagnosed with\u00a0cancer. Instantly the audience is filled with empathy. The two main characters\u00a0Hazel Grace Lancaster (real name) and Gus Waters (real name) met in a cancer\u00a0support group. The two become friends and their romantic relationship grows as\u00a0they discover the commonalities of their struggles. Ultimately, their goal is to live\u00a0life the best they can until one or both of them is taken out by cancer.<\/p>\n

However, this is not the only movie that covers such a sensitive topic in a positive\u00a0way. Here is a list of movies on breast cancer to watch before October is over.<\/p>\n

\u201cTig\u201d – Directed by Kristina Goolsby and Ashley York
\nThis documentary released in 2015, shows Tig Notaro, an American comedian, as\u00a0she navigates the ups and downs of her life as she undergoes treatment for breast\u00a0cancer. During this time she also grieves the recent loss of her mother, attempts\u00a0to have a child with her fianc\u00e9e, Stephanie Allynne, and sees her standup career\u00a0skyrocket following a set about her diagnosis, all in one year.<\/p>\n

\u201cDecoding Annie Parker\u201d – Directed by Steven Bernstein
\nReleased in 2013, this film is based on a true story. The movies follow the life of\u00a0main character Annie Parker, whose breast cancer diagnosis helps doctors discover\u00a0the BRCA1 breast cancer gene that proved that breast cancer can be hereditary in\u00a0women. With teary eyes, you\u2019ll watch her fight the disease that took both her\u00a0mother and sister.<\/p>\n

\u201cMa Ma\u201d – A spanish-speaking film
\nIn this movie, the main character, Pen\u00e9lope Cruz, is diagnosed with breast cancer\u00a0but also finds reasons to laugh with her family, particularly with her son. The\u00a0theme of this film is about living life to the fullest with all of the time you have,\u00a0holding on to loved ones and maintaining your humanity until your final day.<\/p>\n

\u201cHer Only Choice\u201d
\nThis film was released in 2018 about the main character Tasha, who faces the\u00a0same breast cancer diagnosis that took her mother a few years earlier. Shortly\u00a0after her diagnosis, she finds out she is pregnant and has to decide whether or not\u00a0to start cancer treatments. Making her situation more challenging is that she is at\u00a0odds with her family about her decision to save the life of her unborn child instead\u00a0of her own.<\/p>\n

\u201cMiss You Already\u201d
\nIn this 2015 film, Jess and Milly, two life-long best friends, put their friendship to\u00a0the test after Milly is diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer and<\/p>\n

Jess starts a family. Milly is charming, raw, and doesn\u2019t downplay her fatigue,\u00a0jealousy, or her anger. Milly offers a balance between heartwarming and\u00a0heartbreaking moments in the film but the bond between Jess and Milly gives the\u00a0movie significant value. Ultimately, their friendship carries Milly through to the\u00a0end.<\/p>\n
