On Jan. 22, the AAC witnessed a transformative basketball clash between Jackson State University and Texas Southern University. The Tigers secured two victories, solidifying the AAC’s status as a premier basketball venue.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Tigers displayed remarkable skills and teamwork. Forward Jordan O\u2019Neal’s commanding blocks, along with the dynamic duo of Guard Coltie Young and forward Keijuan Johnson’s electrifying dunks, added excitement. Guard Chase Adams sealed the night with final points, contributing to the Tigers’ triumphant 73-64 victory\u2014marking their fourth win in the SWAC season.<\/span><\/p>\n

Beyond team success, Guard Ken Evans Jr., a 6’5 Jackson native, surpassed 1,000 career points. Evans Jr. expressed gratitude, stating, “I realized I reached 1,000 when the announcer said it during a timeout. It made me feel good because everyone was clapping and congratulating me\u2014the first thing I did was thank God because this was one of my milestones I had once I decided to come to JSU.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Evans Jr.’s accomplishment was a personal triumph and a source of pride for teammates. Adams remarked, “One of tonight’s highs for me was being on the team while Ken scored 1,000 points. That’s a big milestone for anyone in college, and he got it done while I\u2019m on the team, so I\u2019m happy for him.”\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The night marked a victory on the scoreboard and etched unforgettable moments of individual achievement and camaraderie.<\/span><\/p>\n

Head Coach Mo Williams reflected on the game, acknowledging areas for improvement, particularly breaking the press. Despite this, he highlighted the team’s high-level defense, effective rebounding, and ball-sharing as positive aspects contributing to their victory.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cCome and show out; we\u2019re 4-1, the girls are 5-0, so that’s more reason within itself to come out and support\u2014you’ve got a good team.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The night also included the Lady Tigers’ triumphant win with a score of 75-50. Spirited performances by the Murrah High School cheerleading team and lively basketball mini-games added to the vibrant ambiance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Junior Mykyliah Williams expressed excitement stating, \u201cWhen they [the Tigers] had the lead, and they were all turning up, great team chemistry.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Senior Dacari Danley, in reflecting on the event, chose the song “Evil Twin” by King Von & Lil Durk, deeming it a fitting anthem.<\/span><\/p>\n

Looking ahead, the Tigers gear up for challenges against Bethune-Cookman University on Jan. 27, Florida A&M University on Jan. 29, and a highly anticipated encounter against Grambling State University on Feb. 3.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
