Jackson State University students are spending their spring break in a variety of ways — including enjoying sunny locations like Miami and partying with friends, volunteering for a good cause and working.<\/p>\n
Devan Lewis, a senior mass communications major from Flora, Miss., said that he wants to enjoy his break, due to the stress of midterms.<\/p>\n
\u201cI plan to go to Miami with my friends to party, shop and visit my boss for a job that I got after graduation.\u201d<\/p>\n
Speaking of work, Dominique Marshall, a sophomore meteorology major from Jackson, Tenn., said \u00a0he won\u2019t be able to enjoy spring break the way he would like to.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am working. There are some things I would like to do, I might be able to schedule during the break since I have a job on campus.\u201d<\/p>\n
Louis Leaths, a senior biology major from Chicago, Ill., said that he will enjoy his break in Florida. \u201cMy friends and I are going to Panama to party and hit the clubs with my Omega frats.\u201d<\/p>\n
Veni\u00a0 Khamphauavanh, a junior chemistry major from Atlanta, Ga., will be going home for the break. \u201cI will be going to California to go to Fresno to see some of my family and to see a friend at Fresno University.\u201d<\/p>\n
Brodrick Whittley, a senior mass communications major from, Detroit, Mich., has a dual agenda for her break time.<\/p>\n
\u201c For the first half, I’ll be in Detroit, pretty much reevaluating myself, making my portfolio, and doing job interviews. After that, I’ll be leaving Detroit and going to Galveston, Texas and going to the beach to relax and have fun.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bridgette James, a senior, business management major from Dallas, Texas, said, \u201cFor me, being an athlete, spring break is a time where I can finally relax and take my mind off school and just have fun.\u201d<\/p>\n
Not all athletes will have the week off for spring break, and neither will band members who are scheduled to play or perform at the 2013 Toyota Southwestern Athletic Conference Basketball Tournament in Garland, Texas through March 16. JSU Lady Tigers will be the No. 5 seed and will take on No. 4 seed\u00a0Prairie View A&M at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Mar. 14. JSU Tigers will be the No. 2 seed and will face\u00a0Alabama State <\/strong>on Thursday, Mar. 14 at 12:30 p.m.<\/p>\n Cleophaus Carson, a sophomore computer engineering major from Canton, Miss., will be busy with activities with the Sonic Boom marching band. \u201cI am a member of the band and we are going to Dallas, Texas for the JSU Men\u2019s basketball tournament, after that I will have some chill time.\u201d<\/p>\n One group of JSU students also found another way to spend their week off \u2013 volunteering in Hattiesburg, Miss. , helping the community clean-up and recover from the destruction of a February tornado.<\/p>\n More than 35 JSU students are spending the week cleaning and moving debris, painting houses, assisting church groups in preparing sack lunches, loading cars for sack lunch delivery, delivering sack lunches and other tasks as needed.
