Anasu Jobodwana (middle) winning at the World University Games<\/figcaption><\/figure>\nThe student athletes of Jackson State University have been making victorious strides in sports this summer as they excel in Football, Volleyball, Track, and Baseball; winning many accolades in the Southwest Athletic Conference (SWAC) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA),<\/p>\n
Defensive running back Qua Cox has recently appeared on The Sports Network\u2019s 2013 pre-season Buck Buchanan Award Watch List. This honor is given to the best to the best defensive player at the FCS level as he lead the SWAC with five interceptions and eight pass break ups, ranking third in league. The senior Tuskeegee, AL native has also appeared on the 2013 College Football Performance Awards preseason watch list and is also a Sports Network preseason All-American.<\/p>\n
Volleyball captain of the Lady Tigers and civil engineering major Kameron Boggan was recently named 2013 SWAC Woman of the Year.\u00a0 During the season, she played a key role in the team\u2019s successful season as she made 130 kills and 45 assists, leading the team to 22 game win streak and another Eastern Division Title. Boggan was also the recipient of the Clutch Player and Leadership award as well has having the highest GPA on the team.<\/p>\n
2012 Olympian, Anaso Jobodwana, has continued to demonstrate his excellence in track this summer with his performances in the 100 and 200 meters for the JSU Tigers at North Carolina A&T. The South Africa native clocked the fastest time in a 200-meter run in NCAA history; which was 20.13 seconds. In the 100 meter run, his time was an impressive 10.10 seconds.<\/p>\n
Not only has the sprinter been successful nationally, but international as well. At the World University Games in Kazan, Russia, he claimed the illustrious sprint double after running the 200 meter at 20.00 seconds. His time is considered to be the fastest ever ran by a South African in a 200 meter run. His time in the 100 meter was 10.10 seconds.<\/p>\n
On May 20th<\/sup>, the JSU Tigers Baseball team won the Southwest Athletic Conference Championship against the Prairie View A&M Panthers beating them 6-2. \u00a0This was their first conference championship victory since 2000 and the first with head coach, Omar Jackson. Alexander Juday was named the Tournament MVP and the Tigers ended the season with a record of 34-22.<\/p>\nUnfortunately, the Tiger\u2019s NCAA championship hopes would come to an end as they lost against the Ragin\u2019 Cajuns of Louisiana Lafayette at the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional.\u00a0 The Tigers were heavily outscored by Lafayette in a 15-1 loss.
