[imagebrowser id=15] Street Jam for Jackson State University\u2019s Homecoming 2K13 returned with a bang as the student clubs and organizations raised money sponsoring games, selling food and drinks, and much more. The night was filled with fellowship, fun, and great music.<\/p>\n The event is sponsored by the Center for Student Engagement and Inclusion within the Division of Student Life and featured JSU alumnus Jay Jones and the ladies of Royal Bleau Boutique. This is the 15th year of the annual festival which showcases school spirit with an extravagant celebration of JSU pride. JSU students arrived in droves to support their favorite organizations and enjoy music provided by DJ T-Money. Items sold by various clubs and organizations included fair favorites like nachos, candy apples, baked goods, fish and barbeque. Some clubs sold unique items like the National Chemistry Society\u2019s smoky dry iced drink called \u201cThe Concoction,\u201d while others performed unique actions like Outspoken\u2019s \u201cWill Spit for Change\u201d in which members of the group performed impromptu poetry for donations.<\/p>\n The Dunk the Deans booth was a favorite among the Street Jam attendees. Phillip Cockrell, Dean of Student Life and Laquala Coleman, Associate Dean of Student Life sacrificed dry clothes in a game that helped students learn about the Student Code of Conduct and the Judicial Process. <\/p>\n DJ T-Money provided the sounds for the night\u2019s festivities as he played a variety of hip-hop music, regional anthems, and dance numbers ranging from \u201cCrank Dat Soulja Boy\u201d, \u201cWhistle While You Twerk\u201d and another popular dance from the Mississippi Delta.<\/p>\n Unfortunately, the night came to an unexpected halt at 8:15 p.m. when an incident occurred. Patrons scattered in terror as a fight broke out between several young men who were allegedly not Jackson State students. Campus Police arrested the individuals without incident and the festivities continued until ending earlier than anticipated.<\/p>\n Despite the incident, the students of Jackson State enjoyed themselves and found the event to be a success. Kentonio Johnson, a sophomore biology\/pre-pharmacy major from Atlanta, Ga. said, \u201cIt\u2019s the best turnout I\u2019ve seen since I\u2019ve been here. This is my sophomore year and it\u2019s better than it was last year. \nMiss JSU, Deja Knight, a computer science major from Dallas Texas said, \u201cStreet Jam was a complete success this year and I\u2019m glad that it was back at B.F. Roberts the way it was my freshman year. It\u2019s really exciting and it seems like everyone had a great time.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nT\u2019Erica Hudson, a senior criminal justice major from Chicago, Ill. said, \u201cStreet Jam was a success, we had a lot of students out, a lot of organizations out here showing what their organizations are about so I definitely think everyone enjoyed it. Great food, great fun, great music.\u201d<\/p>\n
