More than 60 Jackson State University students and five organizations will join forces with the Salvation Army\u2019s Red Kettle Campaign to help combat hunger and poverty. <\/p>\n

The Alice V. Harden Community Service and Civic Engaged Learning Center will coordinate the project from Nov. 12-15 daily at the Kroger Supermarket on I-55N. Students who serve as bell-ringers and collect donations for the upcoming holiday season will receive required community services hours for their participation. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis provides an opportunity for students and faculty to give back to the local community,\u201d said Eltease Moore, Community Service Coordinator. \u201cIt provides awareness that we need to combat the issue of hunger and poverty in Jackson.\u201d
\nAccording to Moore, the number of students participating has almost doubled from last year. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re still receiving requests from students and faculty to participate as volunteers,\u201d said Moore. \u201cThis year we will have a great turn out for student and faculty participation.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Red Kettle Campaign supports not only local citizens of the community, but students from all different backgrounds. The funds help students who are survivors of natural disasters, floods, tornadoes, homelessness and a variety of activities and programs.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want the students to have fun while ringing the bell and singing Christmas carols, but most of all that they understand the cause is so much greater than themselves,\u201d said Moore.<\/p>\n
