\u201cI was exposed to beauty, fashion, and glamour; and everything that is fashion at a really young age. I think that had a big influence on my passion and my love for design,\u201d said Kirby.<\/p>\n

Kirby is a native of Los Angeles, Calif., a graduate of Apparel Design from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and has a Master of Fine Arts in Fashion Design at the Academy of Art University. She was inspired to get into fashion from growing up around the Hollywood scene.<\/p>\n

Even though Kirby was inspired by west coast culture at the beginning of her designing career; she shifted gears when she realized there was a gray area in the fashion world. Going to college in the southern region where women are known to be curvier, she felt that those women were not being accommodated.<\/p>\n

Poetic Justice Jeans was originally a project where Kalia was appointed by a company to be the lead designer for the entire line. With her creative direction, the innovating line of jeans has become her own. She explained how her brand separates itself from any other brand on the market.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy ideas came from what was definitely a product of who I am as a designer and my shape. I was inspired by my family members, black women, and Latin women. The struggle of what we go through on a daily basis trying to find clothes that fit our body types. Other brands don\u2019t target a girl with shape, specifically most of these brands are just about fit for girls that have a straight up and down figure. Not someone that has a shape and accepts her shape. We noticed when we were doing some research on different companies, they have a curvy fit and it is one fit but it doesn\u2019t necessarily fit for everything; like it would fit my thighs but my underwear would show, that\u2019s not hot,\u201d said Kirby.<\/p>\n

She added: \u201cFinding a solution for a problem that speaks closely to me: being a woman with shape and curves. It is very hard to find jeans that fit you and compliment you. Butt, hips, and thighs; all those are beautiful things. Women shouldn\u2019t have to compromise.\u201d<\/p>\n

Not only are these jeans fashionable but they are also affordable, starting only at $42. Kirby takes pride in her grassroots style of marketing to reach her demographic.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no reason for women that have curves to have to pay $100 for a good pair of jeans. It\u2019s easier to take it to the streets and start from the bottom up. If somebody that\u2019s a celebrity buys them that\u2019s great. I just want to get the college girls and women that are still trying to be fashionable but still want to save money,\u201d said Kirby.<\/p>\n
