Jackson State University extinguished the fire of the Virginia University of Lynchburg Dragons 59-0 in the Tigers second win of the season.<\/p>\n

The Tigers put points on the board early.\u00a0 Within a minute of the kick-off in just the third play of the game, QB LaMontiez Ivy threw a touchdown pass to wide receiver Daniel Williams with kicker Ryan Diesing adding the extra point to put the Tigers up seven points.<\/p>\n

The Dragons were not able to make anything happen in their next possession.<\/p>\n

Tiger RB, Rakeem Simms, caught the ball on the ensuing kick-off return, adding yards to his stats and putting the Tigers on the 35 yard line. After just two more plays, Ivy threw a pass to WR Jarius Moll, who scored another touchdown for the Tigers. After another field goal by Deising, the Tigers were already up 14-0.<\/p>\n

It would be a long night for the Lynchburg Dragons, who were coming off last weekend\u2019s 55-7 loss to JSU rival, Alcorn State University.<\/p>\n

After the Tiger\u2019s second touchdown, the clock was just at 11:43. The remaining possessions followed the same pattern, the Dragons could not capitalize and JSU would take advantage of each Tiger possession.<\/p>\n

The rest of the game was a showcase of abuse of Tiger power.<\/p>\n

Coming into the second quarter of the game, RB Jairus Moore scored a touchdown for the Tigers with a good field goal, putting the Tigers up 31-0.<\/p>\n

After being beaten down by the dark side defense of Jackson State, the Dragons were forced to turn the ball over again and again in what was becoming a humiliating game. \u00a0Rakeem Simms ran the ball for another touchdown followed by extra point, leaving the Dragons behind 45-0.<\/p>\n

After JSU\u2019s Sonic Boom of the South blazed the field, the clocks were set to 12 minutes instead of 15 due to the brutal beating the Dragons were enduring.<\/p>\n

Just when the Dragons started to make advances up field, the thought of scoring by Lynchburg was crushed when Tiger DB Antonio Sutton intercepted the ball, putting Tigers at the 24 yard line.<\/p>\n

This play was followed by a touchdown pass from backup QB Evan Ingram to Mckenzie followed by a field goal. The Tigers were now up 52-0.<\/p>\n

The Dragons did not see any progress. The third quarter ended 59-0, after JSU’s DB Jamal Hawkins scored a touchdown from a blocked pass and good field goal.<\/p>\n

No one scored during the fourth quarter. The Dragons defense managed to hold off the Tigers from any more scoring, ending the game at 59-0.<\/p>\n

Simms, Tiger’s leading RB, said, “I’m just happy that we won, man. We came and gave it all we got. That’s all that matters. I am proud of everybody, good game.”<\/p>\n

On Sept. 13, the Tigers take on the Tigers of Tennessee State University in the 25^{th<\/sup> Southern Heritage Classic. \u00a0JSU will be looking to redeem themselves from their losses in 2012 and 2013.\u00a0 Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. in the Liberty Bowl Stadium in Memphis, Tenn.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"}
