From underground to mainstream, Luke James and his self-titled album is taking the R&B world on a journey of love.<\/p>\n

On Sept. 23, the New Orleans, La. native\u2019s self-titled debut album, \u201cLuke James\u201d was released.\u00a0 Jame\u2019s began his career by singing back up for R&B singer Tyrese. Later in his career he began writing for popular artists like Chris Brown (\u201cCrawl\u201d), Justin Bieber (\u201cThat Should be Me\u201d) and many other artist.<\/p>\n

In 2011, James released his first mixtape, \u201c#Luke\u201d, with his critically acclaimed single, \u201cI Want You\u201d, which earned him Best R&B Performance nomination at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards. He released his second mixtape entitled, \u201cWhispers in the Dark\u201d in 2012.<\/p>\n

His current album gives a narrative of how complex his love life was at the time, and what better way to share it than through an album.<\/p>\n

\u201cDancing in the Dark\u201d starts the album off as a great love story. It is about him and his love interest going through the journey of falling in love, and accepting all that she has to offer. He also explains how he is going to love her forever by saying \u201cI\u2019m reaching for the parts you\u2019re afraid to show.\u201d<\/p>\n

The song \u201cExit Wound\u201d is the climax of the album. In this song he expresses how the love of his life broke his heart and left him.\u00a0 With lyrics, \u201cThis ain\u2019t a heart it\u2019s just an exit wound that just won\u2019t close\u201d, James is saying that he can never love again because she took his heart.<\/p>\n

\u201cInsane\u201d ends the love rollercoaster with him depressed but accepting what has happened. He now realizes that forcing a relationship with his love interest is not what\u2019s best for him. The lyrics, \u201cHow can we want something so bad, that\u2019s so bad for us?\u201d explains the whole ending of his love story.<\/p>\n

Overall, I loved this album.\u00a0 I believe it tells the story of his roller-coaster love life. This album will be appealing to people who love R&B music with a Hip-Hop mix to it. He played with the beats in a way where you can feel the emotion of the song just through the instrumental.\u00a0 My top three favorite songs on this album are \u201cOptions\u201d, \u201cExit Wounds\u201d, and \u201c\u2019Dancing in the Dark\u201d.<\/p>\n
