In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness month, many organizations at Jackson State University have taken the time to spread awareness among students.<\/p>\n

While some organizations host forums and encourage students to wear pink, one organization in particular took a different approach.\u00a0 The Residential Halls Association partnered with Miss Black Mississippi Coed, Clear Channel Radio, and Riverwalk Casino to present the 7th Annual Bras for Breast Cancer initiative to benefit the American Cancer Society.\u00a0 They termed this campaign \u201cBras 4 A Cause.\u201d<\/p>\n

Each female residence hall placed a box at the front desk and raided the dorms to collect bras, both big and small, from residents.\u00a0 For each bra donated, the Riverwalk Casino Hotel will donate $1 toward the fight against Breast Cancer.\u00a0 All of the donated bras will also be strung across the Mississippi River on November 1st.<\/p>\n

\u201cTwo hundred and ninety-eight (298) bras were collected last week by the RHA,\u201d said Arekia Bennett,\u00a0 Miss Black Mississippi Coed and senior physics major from Jackson, Miss.<\/p>\n

To motivate students to participate, the female residence hall that donates the most bras will win a pizza party hosted by RHA.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very proud of the movement and the momentum of the students involved and willingness to donate towards such a charitable cause,\u201d said Rashad Sayles, RHA president and senior industrial technology major from Jackson, Miss.<\/p>\n

Not only is the RHA excited about the campaign, residents are happy to be involved.<\/p>\n

Adrianne Jackson, a sophomore marketing major from Grambling, La. appreciates RHA\u2019s initiative.<\/p>\n

\u201cBreast cancer is a very serious topic and can affect anyone.\u00a0 My aunt passed away from breast cancer so I am very active in the breast cancer awareness cause.\u00a0 I\u2019m glad that organizations on campus are helping to spread awareness among college students.\u201d<\/p>\n
