Jackson State University students looking for fun, competition and a healthy outlet gathered in the JSU Recreation Complex on Feb. 4 for intramural volleyball.<\/p>\n

On Feb. 2, the season began as students formed teams and paid $7 to play in the games that showcased their love for the sport. The first game was a lively game matchup between Swoosh and the Superb16 Ladies.<\/p>\n

The game ended with Swoosh dominating with a score of 25-5. They would go on to take the second game.<\/p>\n

Jalicia Smith, an industrial technology major from Jackson, Miss., is the captain of Swoosh.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was interested in (volleyball) 7th grade but really got into it in 8th; I tried out and made it. I played my freshman and senior years in high school. I am playing intramural because I missed it and knew that it would make me happy. It is going really well, my team in undefeated and I will most definitely play next year,\u201d said Smith.<\/p>\n

Alexis Ware is co-captain of team Swoosh. She is the best friend of Smith and played against her during high school years. While watching them play with each other, you find them arguing from time to time if one of them misses a point.<\/p>\n

\u201cI started playing volleyball my 8th grade year and played all of my years in high school. I like playing because it helps me relieve stress and forget about the world around me. As for the game today, overall the game was great. We had some mistakes but we overcame them all. I will certainly play next year. I love volleyball,\u201d said Ware, a sophomore business management major from Shaw, Miss.<\/p>\n

Swoosh\u2019s team to beat is Kiss my Ace, the only other undefeated team.<\/p>\n

Jasmine Pittman, a senior political science major from Clarksdale, Miss., is a player for the Kiss My Ace team.<\/p>\n

\u201cI played volleyball at my old high school and I definitely have love for the game. Intramural volleyball is a great way to give others the opportunity to be involved and play with others. It is fun playing with other players as passionate about volleyball as me,\u201d said Pittman.<\/p>\n
