<\/a>Diamond Jenkins<\/strong> When many students think of\u00a0 Mondays, they often assume that a long dreadful week lies ahead. Jackson State University now offers a program to freshman students, Motivational Mondays, in an effort to give students a little inspiration and aid in a great start to the week ahead.<\/p>\n Motivational Mondays aims to guarantee every college freshman has the best \u201cFirst Year Experience\u201d.\u00a0 This signature program was designed to help meet expectations, conquer challenges, fulfill anticipated academic needs, and provide students with an exciting experience.<\/p>\n Sponsored by the Student Government Association, the First Year Experience includes both curricular and co-curricular components to help Jackson State students make a smooth transition to university life in and out of the classroom.<\/p>\n On Feb. 13, the Battle of Sexes was the latest discussion to take place in the series.\u00a0 This event, held in the\u00a0 lobby of the Alexander Residence Hall, included a panel discussion led by upperclassmen at JSU on various campus issues and how they affect young college students today.\u00a0 Debates between the sexes on\u00a0 relationships, love, financial stability after college, and how men and women think differently were discussed.<\/p>\n \u201cI like when freshmen get to be involved and have discussions about different campus issues that affect the lives of young African-American students,\u201d said Cynthia Howard, a freshman biology pre-physical therapy major from Chicago,Ill. \u201cOur generation has a lot of work to do in order to rebuild things to better our future.\u201d<\/p>\n Ariel Baker, a senior from little Rock, Ark. who served as a panelist said, \u201cAs a speech communications major, I have studied how the conversational styles of men and women differ. We cannot lump all men or all women into fixed categories.\u201d<\/p>\n She added: \u201cBut the seemingly senseless misunderstandings that haunt our relationships can in part be explained by the different conversational rules by which men and women play.\u201d<\/p>\n Charles Grant, a senior business management major\u00a0 frome Canton, Miss. and panelist said, \u201cOur goal is to help you on your journey to becoming a JSU graduate, a responsible citizen and an outstanding world leader.
