The Lady Tigers continued their strong conference run with a dominant 3–0 sweep over Alcorn State University on Oct.26, securing set victories of 25–18, 25–19, and 25–10. Jackson State maintained energy and control throughout, showcasing impressive chemistry and teamwork on both offense and defense.

The first set opened with high energy as outside hitter Jayden James delivered two consecutive kills, setting the early tone. Makenzie Washington, playing right-side, then surprised Alcorn with a skillful tip over two defenders.

The Lady Tigers’ serving was equally impressive—defensive specialist Naija Gadis opened with an ace that brought the crowd to their feet. Jackson State’s passing remained sharp, and their communication consistently kept Alcorn off balance, disrupting their rhythm.

Leading the team for Jackson State was James (OH), who finished with 12 kills and hit an impressive .300. Makenzie Washington (RS) and Kamiera Watkins (MB) added 9 and 4 kills. In comparison, middle blocker Kateijon Robinson chipped in 4 kills and two blocks that helped shut down Alcorn’s front line.

The Lady Tigers’ offense was rolling, hitting .289 overall as a team compared to Alcorn’s .028. With clean assists from setter Giannelle Asomani and setter Karys Dove, JSU’s hitters had perfect setups to attack from every angle.

Defensively, Jackson State showed grit. Middle blocker Cierra Gilbert and setter/blocker Dove dominated the net with quick reactions and tight blocks that kept Alcorn from finding open space. The back row came alive too, Washington made a diving save that led to a key point midway through the second set, and libero Gadis kept rallies alive with quick digs that frustrated Alcorn’s hitters.

After the game, freshman Abrianna Strickland of Corinth, Miss., shared her thoughts on the victory.

“The game was an easy win for us. By the second quarter, I knew we were going to win. They[Alcorn]did not come to win, they just wanted to play, and we, as expected, won,” said Strickland.

Jayla Pritle, a sophomore from Memphis, Tenn., expressed her excitement after the game.

“That’s how the Lady Tigers do it—we don’t play around! When we hit the court, it’s all business until the final whistle,” said Pritle.

The second set was more competitive, with Alcorn staying close until the Lady Tigers pulled ahead with a five-point run, fueled by Dove’s strong serves and sharp kills from James. JSU’s focus and communication proved decisive as they capitalized on every Braves mistake.

By the third set, Jackson State had completely taken control. The Tigers started with an 8–1 run, highlighted by two powerful kills from Washington and a block from Robinson that brought the crowd to its feet. Although Alcorn attempted to rally, JSU’s defense remained solid, and a final ace from Gadis secured the match with a 25–10 victory.

With this win, Jackson State improves its overall record and strengthens its position in the SWAC standings. The Lady Tigers’ chemistry, hustle, and energy were evident throughout the night, and they aim to keep their winning streak alive as they prepare for their next matchup against Mississippi Valley State University on Nov. 3.
