Guy King, a Jackson State University senior Mass Communication major from Jackson, Miss., has been selected to participate in the Fall 2015 Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) Communications Internship Program in Washington, D.C.
The CBCF Emerging Leaders Internship is a rigorous program that includes a full-time work week, educational seminars, individual and team projects, and several social and networking events. The mission of the CBCF program is to improve the quality of life by training the next generation of leaders to make sound public policies under the guidance of mentors. The internship program is August 24 through Dec. 4, 2015.
Dr. Elayne Anthony, director of the JSU Department of Mass Communication, stated: “We hope that Guy (King) will use the tools acquired in the Department of Mass Communication throughout his experience in Washington, D.C. We are very proud that he has received an internship with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation.”
During his matriculation at JSU, King has been active in several organizations and groups including: Academic Council Senator and President Pro Tempore of the Senate with the Student Government Association, news editor of The Blue & White Flash campus newspaper, business manager of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), 2nd Vice President of the JSU chapter of the NAACP and much more.
“I am beyond excited and elated to be interning in the District of Columbia this fall. My dream is to become a communications director on a political level, so this internship will definitely get me prepared. I will be working with a communications director and/or press secretary in a Congressional Black Caucus member’s office, getting real hands on experience in the field,” said King. “Jackson State University and the department of Mass Communication have prepared me for this new endeavor and I look forward to returning in the spring to present the many things I learned.”
