During the current NBA season, the Golden State Warriors have established themselves as the best team in the league. They started the season on hot streak, winning 24 straight games. Now the question that’s being asked is can they break the NBA regular season win record?

The record is currently held by the 1995-1996 Chicago Bulls team who won 72 games and lost 10 that season. You may know a couple of familiar names from that team like Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and Dennis Rodman. That same year, the Bulls went on to win the NBA championship as well.

Darius Rice, a former NBA player with the Miami Heat said, “In this day in age the Warriors will break the record, I do not see anyone beating them. Although they are a good team, I do not think they are a better team than the team the Bulls had in 1995-96. The Warriors would not have been able to beat the Bulls.”

The head coach of the Golden State Warriors, Steve Kerr, was a player on the 95-96 Bulls team. However in an interview with NBA.com, Kerr said, “It’s never going to happen again. It’s virtually impossible to win 70; it’s a feat that is so difficult because you have to factor in everything: injuries, fatigue, luck and I just don’t see it ever happening again.”

Kerr might have to eat his words if his Warriors team keeps playing at this level. According to ESPN, the Golden State Warriors are dominating the NBA right now in every major statistical category. The Warriors can be beaten but so far that has only happen five times this season.

Rob J, host of JSU’s own Metro Morning Live, believes that the Warriors are good enough to take the record from the Bulls.

“In my many years of watching basketball, I have never seen a team like the Golden State Warriors. I think they will break the record, but since I am a New York Knicks fan I wish it would be them to break the record, yet I still like to see them play,” said Rob J.

Other NBA fans agree.

“I feel like they have a good chance of getting the record. They have good leadership, a strong rotation, unselfish, and young. Everyone on the team has the right mind set of doing what it takes. If they don’t get the record they will come pretty close to it and possibly becoming on paper one of the best teams in NBA history,” Reggie Odom, a junior health/physical education recreation major from Forest, Miss.

According to NBA.com, the Warriors right now are still on pace to achieve that record of 73 wins. During the Bulls record setting season, they lost only two home games, and they won more road games, 33, than any team in the history of the NBA.

The Golden State Warriors have 27 games left, and have to win 23 of those games to beat the record set by the Bulls. This chase for the record may come down to the last few games, but if they are able to get it, they will be known as one of the greatest teams in NBA history.
