Associate Editor
As a freshman from Benton Harbor, Michigan, knowing very few people, I quickly made friends as upperclassmen took me under their wings to ensure I maintained focus on my academics. During my sophomore year I was able to find myself and from this crucial period spawned all of my successes of my junior and senior year.
I have always been concerned with how students received information on campus and this led me to become a member of The Blue and White Flash. Having my formal education in economics, and not journalism or mass communications, working with the Flash introduced me to a new dimension, as well as increased my leadership capabilities, helped me become more organized, and invaluably enhanced my communication skills.
I thank The Blue and White Flash staff for leading me, as I worked to serve JSU students. Ms. Sylvia Watley, director of Student Publications, thank you for seeing my potential, and bestowing upon me the position of the Associate Editor. The conversations we have had and the example you set will help me with my professionalism far beyond JSU.
Ms. Shannon Tatum, when I started writing for the Flash I was being buffeted by raw writing ability. I did not think that I could write and still know I have a long way to go before I can call myself a true writer. While working with you however, you have helped me identify my talents, while eliminating the unnecessary. I know that if I had more time to work with you I could become a great writer and as long as you allow I will continue to ask for your assistance as I perfect my craft.
Ernest Camel, while working with you this semester, I underwent a paradigm shift concerning how I view society, race relations, the future of America, and what I can do to impact any of it or if I can have an affect at all. The works we were able to produce will serve to educate and enlighten, as we were enlightened, in our efforts to speak the truth. I hope that our partnership can grow as we continue on the path to create a more educated, harmonious society.
Throughout it all, I have learned that no matter what you say, there is always someone listening. I originally thought that my words would fall on deaf ears, but after receiving accolades from students, faculty, and administration, I realized that I marginally benefited the JSU community and owe it all to The Blue and White Flash.
