BET’s The Game recently premiered Jan. 10th, kicking off the show’s fifth season with 5.3 million viewers. This was down from season four’s 7 million viewers. Instead of it’s normal 13 episode season, the sitcom will now have 22 episodes making the season a little bit longer.
While season four left viewers at the edge of their seats, season five had a lot of making up to do for a lot of viewers.
Season four really disappointed me from the first episode to the last. I felt like the show was just doing the bare minimum. From the dimming of the lights, to the way the actors acted, the show was no longer suspenseful. I felt like I was watching it just because I had supported the other seasons and felt obligated to tune in every week.
Picking up where it left off, season five began with infidelity, secrets, ambition, betrayal, and of course drama.
Melanie finally tells Derwin the truth about her abortion. It seems as if it is not Derwin messing up, it is Melanie doing something crazy and refusing to realize the upcoming consequences. The whole time after admitting her abortion Derwin thinks it would have been his. When really it’s Trey Wiggs!
Of course the show would be nothing without the infamous Tasha Mack and her son Malik Wright. Malik and Tasha deal with Jenna’s drug problems.
The funny commentary from Tee-Tee in the episode is what makes the scenes. Tee-Tee also tries to help Tasha out with picking Derwin back up as a client and dropping Malik. Tasha insists on sticking with family first and chooses Malik. I am sure that will change very soon with a little help of next week’s previews.
Jason and special guest Brandy get married after he gets the actress fired and they go out for some tacos. It seems like for the past few seasons Jason has been trying to justify his love for black woman. Although it seems like the writers of the show are trying to convince us watchers that Brandy and Jason will probably fall in love and get married for real somewhere down the road. I am not getting my hopes up. I am sure it is going to be a twist to relationship somewhere down the road. Unfortunately Kelly was nowhere to be found in the season premiere. From the way they changed up her character last season I could care less if she comes back. If she does come back I want the old Kelly back.
Although the first episode of The Game barely caught my attention to continue watching, there are suppose to be some great guest appearances; such as Tae Heckard, NeNe Leakes, Estelle, Star Jones and many more.
I plan to watch the rest of the season because I have been supporting the show since the first season. The fifth season did not start badly, hopefully it gets more juicy as the story line continues.
