As I reflect on my time here, I’m filled with a deep sense of gratitude and accomplishment. Serving as your Student Government Association President has been one of the greatest honors of my life. This role has allowed me to serve not only as a leader but as a part of a community that has supported, challenged, and inspired me in ways I never imagined. It has been a true privilege to walk alongside you all during this journey, and as my time here draws to a close, I want to share my thanks and heartfelt appreciation for every single one of you.

From the very beginning, I’ve been in awe of the resilience, strength, and unshakable spirit of this student body. You all are the heart of this institution—each of you bringing unique experiences, dreams, and challenges to this community. Together, we’ve fought for the things that matter most, from advocating for policies that improve student life to organizing events that create lasting memories. The impact we’ve had, and will continue to have, is a testament to the power of our collective efforts. I am proud of all we’ve accomplished, but it’s not the events or the initiatives that define my time as SGA President—it’s the people. It’s you.

I want to express my deepest gratitude to my administration and fellow student leaders. Without your unwavering commitment and tireless efforts, none of what we’ve achieved would have been possible. You’ve gone above and beyond, demonstrating leadership, passion, and dedication to making this place a better community for all. You’ve worked to uplift the voices of students, served as advocates for the issues that matter most, and made sure that this institution is one where everyone can thrive. I am eternally grateful for your friendship, your support, and your leadership.

But beyond my administration, it’s the entire student body that I owe my deepest thanks to. You are the reason this institution is so vibrant, so full of life. I’ve watched you face obstacles head-on, from personal challenges to the pressures of academic life, and time and time again, you’ve shown what it means to be a Tiger. You’ve fought for what’s right, you’ve stood up for one another, and you’ve never backed down from a challenge. Your determination and strength have been a constant source of inspiration for me, and I’m honored to have been part of this journey with you.

As I prepare to step away from this role, I leave with nothing but optimism for the future. I am excited to see the next generation of student leaders rise to the occasion and continue the work we’ve started. I have no doubt that you will carry the torch forward with the same passion, integrity, and commitment that we’ve seen throughout this year. You have the power to shape the future of this community, to create a space where all students feel heard, respected, and empowered. I trust you to keep pushing for progress, to challenge systems that no longer serve us, and to stand strong for what is right.

One of the most powerful lessons I’ve learned in this role is the importance of fighting for what is right—no matter the odds. It’s easy to stay silent or go along with the status quo, but true change comes when we are willing to speak up, to take a stand, and to fight for justice. I urge each and every one of you to carry that with you. Don’t let fear or complacency stop you from speaking out when you see injustice. Don’t let anyone silence your voice. You have the power to make a difference, and with that power comes the responsibility to fight for what is right, not just for yourself but for others.

Whether it’s advocating for policies that support your peers, supporting causes that matter, or standing up for the rights of those who feel voiceless, always remember that your voice has value. Your actions matter. Your leadership matters. The future of this community is in your hands, and I have no doubt that you will continue to fight for the betterment of all who walk through these halls.

As I move on to the next chapter of my journey, I leave behind a community that has shaped me into the person I am today. But before I go, I want to leave you with a quote that has always resonated with me, one that I think perfectly sums up the spirit of our time together:

“The legal system can only serve to protect people if those who work within it recognize that the law is not an instrument of oppression, but of liberty and justice for all.” – Thurgood Marshall

These words remind us that justice is not a passive pursuit. It is something we must fight for, something we must stand up for. And that fight is one that never ends.

Thank you all for your trust, your support, and your dedication. It has been an absolute honor to serve as your president. I will carry the memories of our time together with me always, and I look forward to seeing all the incredible things you will accomplish in the future. Keep pushing forward. Keep fighting for what is right. And remember, the best is yet to come.

With love and gratitude,
Caleab Pickens
