{"id":10397,"date":"2020-02-07T22:02:52","date_gmt":"2020-02-07T22:02:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.jsums.edu\/jsuflash\/?p=10397"},"modified":"2020-02-07T22:02:52","modified_gmt":"2020-02-07T22:02:52","slug":"grammy-awards-show-does-impromptu-tribute-to-kobe-bryant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.jsums.edu\/theflash\/index.php\/2020\/02\/07\/grammy-awards-show-does-impromptu-tribute-to-kobe-bryant\/","title":{"rendered":"Grammy Awards show does impromptu tribute to Kobe Bryant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Kharynton Allen<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Staff Writer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As news rang Sunday morning (Jan. 26) that retired NBA legend Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna \u201cGiGi\u201d Bryant and seven others died in a helicopter crash, the 62<sup>nd<\/sup>Grammy Awards took an alternate route to make sure the global icon was highlighted in the same place he achieved his greatest accomplishment\u2014the Los Angeles Staples Center.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10387\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10387\" style=\"width: 360px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sites.jsums.edu\/theflash2025\/files\/2020\/02\/best-grammys-fashion.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10387  \" src=\"http:\/\/sites.jsums.edu\/theflash2025\/files\/2020\/02\/best-grammys-fashion.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"202\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10387\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Google image<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Grammy-award winner, Lizzo, opened the show with her hits, \u201cCuz I Love You\u201d and \u201cTruth Hurts.\u201d Before leaving the stage she dedicated the night to him, stating, \u201c\u2018Tonight is for you Kobe.\u2019\u201d This act was followed by host, Alicia Keys, and Boyz II Men as they sang \u201cIt\u2019s So Hard to Say Goodbye.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Lizzo was the most nominated artist at this year\u2019s Grammy Awards as she was nominated in 8 categories. She took home Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Traditional R&amp;B Performance, and Best Urban Contemporary Album.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Though this awards show did have many celebratory moments, it also came with more heartfelt performances from artists.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>According to Rolling Stone, previous Fifth Harmony group member, Camila Cabello, dedicated her performance of \u201cFirst Man\u201d to her father. Pictures went across the screen from her childhood causing her father to cry as she came down from the stage to sing to him.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>NBC also reported that Demi Lovato performed for the first time live on stage since her overdose in 2018. She is expected to sing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl on Feb. 2.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>An emotional tribute was also given to late rapper, Nipsey Hussle, who died in March 2019. DJ Khaled, John Legend, Meek Mill, Kirk Franklin, YG and Roddy Rich all honored Hussle on stage with performing \u201cHigher.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The song also snagged a win for Best Rap Performance of \u201cRacks In The Middle\u201d featuring Roddy Ricch and Hit-Boy, as well as best Rap\/Sung Performance for \u201cHigher\u201d with DJ Khaled and John Legend. Hussle\u2019s family accepted his posthumously win.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Other tributes were made to the late, Prince, by Usher, Sheila E, and FKA Twigs, as well as a sendoff to Grammy producer Ken Ehrlich.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>New artist, Billie Eilish, had a great night at the Grammy\u2019s as she won five awards.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Eilish took home Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Best New Artist, Song of the Year, and Best Engineered Album. She also performed \u201cWhen the Party\u2019s Over\u201d with brother, Finneas O\u2019Connell from their new album.<\/p>\n<p>Eilish was one of few artists with the most awards and racking in the most nominations.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Lil Nas X was another performer that held many nominations. He was nominated for six awards taking home two that included Best Music Video and Best Pop Duo\/Group Performance, according to the Recording Academy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For his on-stage performance, Lil Nas X brought on Billy Ray Cyrus, BTS, Mason Ramsey, and Diplo.
