Sarah Brown said shortly after being named one of three finalists in the Miss JSU pageant a couple of weeks ago that she shared the same dream as her competitors. What she didn\u2019t know at the time was that her dream to be Miss Jackson State University would come true.<\/p>\n

She said at the time, \u201cIt allowed me to discover gifts and talents that I did not know existed. My recipe for the pageant was prayer humility, and patience.\u201d<\/p>\n

As a pageant finalist, Brown, a junior physics major from Jackson, Miss., advanced to the ballot and won the title with 623 of the 1147 votes cast. She said: \u201cBeing elected as Miss Jackson State University 2012-2013 is a feeling that cannot be expressed in words. It has brought a feeling to my heart of hope, love, and happiness.\u201d<\/p>\n

A member of several organizations including the Meteorology Club, Society of Physics, Chi Alpha Epsilon National Honor Society, Alpha Lambda Delta, Essence of a Lady Tiger, Miss Residence Hall Association 2011-201, Miss Congeniality for Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Brown is a three year dedicated volunteer to Stewpot Community Center.<\/p>\n

She attends Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church in Jackson, where she serves as a member of Daughters of Destiny. Brown enjoys reading, tutoring in math and science.<\/p>\n

The FLASH:<\/strong>\u00a0 Why did you want to run for Miss JSU?<\/p>\n

Brown:\u00a0<\/strong> \u201cI had a desire to run for Miss JSU because I really want to implement my platform \u201cThinkBIG\u201d which focuses on Bigger Service, Bigger Impact, Bigger Success.\u201d<\/p>\n

The FLASH:<\/strong> What is your platform and how do you plan to implement it next year?<\/p>\n

Brown:<\/strong> \u201c ThinkBIG will be implemented by hosting public service events, creating various forums, and trying my best to bridge the gap between Jackson State University and the community to impact the lives of others and the future as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

The FLASH:<\/strong> Is there anything you want to change about the image of Miss JSU?<\/p>\n

Brown:<\/strong> There is nothing I will change about the image of Miss JSU. All former queens are amazing women and have set the standards of representing royalty.<\/p>\n

The FLASH:<\/strong> What advice did you receive from past campus queens or anyone?<\/p>\n

Brown:<\/strong> \u201cThe advice I received from past Miss JSUs is to always be yourself, no matter what.\u201d<\/p>\n

The FLASH:<\/strong> Why do you think it\u2019s important for freshmen to know Miss JSU?<\/p>\n

Brown:<\/strong> \u201cI feel it is important for not only freshmen but for everyone to know Miss JSU because you never want to miss the opportunity to make a difference in someone\u2019s life.\u201d<\/p>\n

The FLASH:<\/strong> \u201cIs there anything in the SGA you would want to see change?<\/p>\n

Brown:<\/strong> \u201cThe Student Government Association is an organization that has met a lot of needs for the student body. The only thing I would like to change about the SGA is to include my platform \u2018ThinkBIG.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
