{"id":1534,"date":"2012-11-15T17:02:06","date_gmt":"2012-11-15T17:02:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.jsums.edu\/jsuflash\/?p=1534"},"modified":"2012-11-15T17:02:06","modified_gmt":"2012-11-15T17:02:06","slug":"students-excited-about-holidays","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.jsums.edu\/theflash\/index.php\/2012\/11\/15\/students-excited-about-holidays\/","title":{"rendered":"Students excited about holidays"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Mauricio Jaramillo<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Blue &amp; White Flash \/ Staff Writer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The holiday season often brings fellowship and festivities as the students at Jackson State University prepare for the upcoming Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.<br \/>\nStudents look forward to many things during the holidays.<\/p>\n<p>Tirone Lee, a freshman mass communications major from Chicago, Ill.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0said, \u201cWhat is special about this season is seeing my parents and my brother.\u201d<br \/>\nLee has bought some hats and t-shirts from the JSU bookstore as gifts for\u00a0 Christmas Day.<\/p>\n<p>Lee added, \u201cI can\u2019t wait to taste the delicious food, such as turkey and black-eye peas that my mother cooks.\u201d<br \/>\nDoirs Bennet received an early Christmas present.<\/p>\n<p>Bennet, a social work major at JSU said, \u201cThe most important change this year is the birth of my niece.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She was so excited about the new birth, she has already decorated her house with a Christmas tree and other ornaments to create a happy atmosphere for the baby.\u00a0 She has also already bought the Christmas gift for the little girl.<\/p>\n<p>Many international students are not able to go home for the holidays.<\/p>\n<p>Omar Slai, a student learning English in the JSU International Program from Iraq said, \u201cI, like other exchange students,\u00a0 will be here for the holidays.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He explained that he has been in the United States for four years with his family and he enjoys the holidays that are not usually celebrated in his country.<br \/>\nErica Benett is also excited about celebrating the holidays.<\/p>\n<p>The physics major said, \u201cMy relatives usually have important conversations about the future of the United States and politics, especially after presidential elections around the Christmas Day and New Year\u2019s Day dinner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She added that she is ready, but the most important thing on holidays is to have a break from the university and getting together with family.<\/p>\n<p>Mauricio Jaramillo is a journalist from Bogota, Colombia.\u00a0 He is currently studying English in the International Program at JSU.\u00a0 He has worked for the most important newspaper in Colombia, \u201cEl Tiempo.\u201d He has also worked for the newspaper &#8220;La Republica.&#8221; His goal is to improve his English writing and to bring those skills to Colombia.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mauricio Jaramillo Blue &amp; White Flash \/ Staff Writer The holiday season often brings fellowship and festivities as the students at Jackson State University prepare for the upcoming Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
