Knight - 2013-2014 Miss JSU<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman\">Megan Moffett<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> <span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman\">Blue&amp; White Flash\/Staff Writer<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman\">The Jackson State University Student Center was filled with hopeful candidates, their entourages, curious voters and excited students as all anxiously awaited the announcement of the winners of the 2013-2014 Student Government Association election held on April 3, 2013.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman\">\u00a0Jarvis Horn, a freshman psychology major from York, Ala. said, \u201cI felt the election was off to a slow start because of the Easter break for the Miss JSU candidates, but it picked up as the election process progressed.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman\">\u00a0Horn said that he felt the closest competition would be for SGA President and Miss Jackson State University. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman\">Jordyn Carter, a sophomore political science major from Jackson, Miss., agreed. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman\">\u201cI think the closest competition will be the Miss JSU race,\u201d said Carter, who is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She said she would be pleased with the selection of any of the ladies running for Miss JSU; all three candidates are AKAs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman\">\u00a0\u201cI expect all of my sisters (ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.) to win because if one of us wins, all of us win. I also hope Perrin (Bostic) wins SGA President because that is who I voted for,\u201d said Carter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman\">\u00a0The Miss JSU candidates all sat at the edge of their seats as well as the audience to see who would be taking the crown. Deja D. Knight let out a scream of joy as she was announced the winner with 379 votes to defeat Ashley F. Norwood, who received 349 votes and Morgan D. Jackson, who received 259 votes. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman\">\u00a0 \u201cI\u2019m so glad that I won,\u201d said Knight, as she acknowledged her fellow candidates and her sorority sisters for running along side of her.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman\">\u00a0Carter&#8217;s choice for SGA President was not the people\u2019s choice; Bostic lost by 179 votes. In a close race for the top student leadership position, Charles Cathey III won the election by a mere 18 votes over Carlos Smith.\u00a0 T\u2019Erica Hudson, who ran unopposed, was elected SGA Vice President.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman\">\u00a0Cameron Robinson, a sophomore biology\/pre-med major from St. Louis, Mo., said that the election was very organized and neat. Robinson, like many other students, knew that the Miss JSU and SGA President races would be a close ones.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman\">\u00a0\u201cWe have great candidates with great platforms so I couldn&#8217;t really say who would win,\u201d said Robinson.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman\">\u00a0The winners of the SGA class offices were announced as well as other major leadership positions. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman\">In the race for SGA Business Manager, Rashad Sayles was the winner; Willie Bell III, Douglas Moore II, and Anthony Watkins Jr., all won the offices of Justice while unopposed candidate, Jade King took the office of Chief Justice; Executive Secretary was won by Ebonee Swilley and Parliamentarian was taken by Arekia Bennett who ran unopposed; Academic Council Senator was taken by Matthew Lampley, who also ran unopposed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman\">\u00a0For a complete list of winners, click on image below:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sites.jsums.edu\/theflash2025\/files\/2013\/04\/SGA-Election-Results.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1961\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.jsums.edu\/theflash2025\/files\/2013\/04\/SGA-Election-Results-300x220.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"220\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Megan Moffett Blue&amp; White Flash\/Staff Writer The Jackson State University Student Center was filled with hopeful candidates, their entourages, curious voters and excited students as all anxiously awaited the announcement of the winners of the 2013-2014 Student Government Association election held on April 3, 2013. \u00a0Jarvis Horn, a freshman psychology major from York, Ala.
