{"id":2074,"date":"2013-04-26T18:51:18","date_gmt":"2013-04-26T18:51:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.jsums.edu\/jsuflash\/?p=2074"},"modified":"2013-04-26T18:51:18","modified_gmt":"2013-04-26T18:51:18","slug":"inaugural-members-of-jsu-presidents-society-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.jsums.edu\/theflash\/index.php\/2013\/04\/26\/inaugural-members-of-jsu-presidents-society-announced\/","title":{"rendered":"Inaugural members of JSU President\u2019s Society announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Special to the Flash<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Center for Student Engagement and Inclusion in the Division of Student Life at Jackson State University has selected eight students to represent the Office of the President at designated events and University advancement activities as part of the President\u2019s Society.<\/p>\n<p>A distinguished one-of-a kind leadership development opportunity, this newly formed program will promote the positive image of Jackson State by engaging a diverse group of students in planned activities with University constituents. By sharing their talents and the story of their unique experiences at JSU, Society members will validate the philanthropic contributions of donors, alumni, faculty, staff and the student body.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe President\u2019s Society honors those students who combine scholarship, integrity, maturity and a well-rounded personality with university-wide awareness, participation and leadership demonstrated by their significant contribution to the extracurricular life of the University,\u201d said Dr. Gary Crosby, director of the CSEI. \u201cAcceptance into the President\u2019s Society is a privilege and is viewed as a service to the JSU community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Students accepted into the President\u2019s Society are:<br \/>\n\u2022 Jordan Carter, a sophomore honors political science major from Brandon, Miss.<br \/>\n\u2022 Candace Chambers, a sophomore English education major from Jackson, Miss.<br \/>\n\u2022 Manisha Heard, a junior mass\/speech communications major from Bolton, Miss.<br \/>\n\u2022 Tyiesha Johnson, a junior speech communications major from Florence, Miss.<br \/>\n\u2022 Bobby Jones, Jr., a junior criminal justice major from Jackson, Miss.<br \/>\n\u2022 Tekeydra Lee, a junior biology\/pre-medicine major from Lena, La.<br \/>\n\u2022 Kachelle Pratcher, a junior mass communications major from Chicago, Ill.<br \/>\n\u2022 Carlos Smith, a junior psychology major from Jackson, Miss.<\/p>\n<p>Selected members were chosen based on their applications, reference letters, a personal interview, overall academic achievements and campus involvement and display of exceptional leadership and communications skills. Applicants also responded to questions about their understanding of the mission of JSU, the University\u2019s role in their life and how Jackson State has prepared them for their future goals.<\/p>\n<p>Members said they look forward to fulfilling their commitment, beginning in the fall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am happy that I can serve in the inaugural class of the President\u2019s Society.\u00a0 I hope to help the president out at all engagements in the upcoming school year,\u201d said Pratcher.<br \/>\nChambers\u00a0 stated:\u00a0 \u201cI consider it an honor to be a member of the President\u2019s Society because of the opportunities for leadership and networking while at the university, that will prepare me for future endeavors.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Special to the Flash The Center for Student Engagement and Inclusion in the Division of Student Life at Jackson State University has selected eight students to represent the Office of the President at designated events and University advancement activities as part of the President\u2019s Society.
