Interview with Anthony Cornish who played Nate Jones (music director for James Brown) in the movie \u201cGet On Up\u201d due to release this Fall.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The life of \u201cThe God-Father of Soul,\u201d James Brown, is being reflected in a new film entitled, \u201cGet On Up.\u201d<\/p>\n

James Brown was an innovator and philanthropist who opened up the world of music world to different social views. His lyrics, dance moves, \u201csoul,\u201d and his energy lit the stage and touched a lot of people\u2019s lives in a very positive way.<\/p>\n

According to Universal Pictures, \u201cGet On Up\u201d will feature Chadwick Boseman\u00a0as James Brown. Boseman is no novice to playing historical African-American figures as many will remember him from his starring role in the movie \u201c42\u201d where he starred as the famed baseball legend, Jackie Robinson.\u00a0 The film will also Grammy Award winner Jill Scott,\u00a0Dan Aykroyd of \u201cGhostbusters\u201d fame\u00a0and Viola Davis\u00a0and Octavia Spencer of \u201cThe Help\u201d. \u00a0The movie is directed by Tate Taylor, who also directed \u201cThe Help\u201d.<\/p>\n

Local talents around the Jackson Metropolitan area were given a chance to showcase their skills and show the world what they have to offer. One individual in particular had the chance of a lifetime. Anthony Cornish, a Jackson State graduate, is one of the many locals who have made their big break.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wasn\u2019t even looking for this part. A friend told me to audition, I did, and I got the part,\u201d said Cornish.<\/p>\n

Cornish will play Nate Jones in the film. \u00a0Jones was one of Brown\u2019s music directors. \u00a0He had a significant role in Brown\u2019s music career on stage. He managed the band, played the saxophone, and keyed the piano at the same time. Cornish said the role is a big one to fulfill but he has to do what it takes to make it.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019ll see me run up to the mic and start playing a solo and then run back and direct the band,\u201d said Cornish.<\/p>\n

Cornish hopes the networking opportunities he was given by working with artists like Jill Scott in the film translate into future success in his music career.<\/p>\n

He gave these words of wisdom to the others in the city of Jackson who have dreams to pursue careers in entertainment.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you have a passion, then follow it. If God has given you a gift and ability, don\u2019t allow it to lay dormant, pursue it. You can do anything you put your mind to,\u201d said Cornish.<\/p>\n

Universal studios has scheduled the release date of \u201cGet On Up\u201d for Aug. 1, 2014.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
