{"id":4882,"date":"2014-11-20T22:07:42","date_gmt":"2014-11-20T22:07:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.jsums.edu\/jsuflash\/?p=4882"},"modified":"2014-11-20T22:07:42","modified_gmt":"2014-11-20T22:07:42","slug":"the-more-you-gobble-the-more-you-wobble-on-thanksgiving","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.jsums.edu\/theflash\/index.php\/2014\/11\/20\/the-more-you-gobble-the-more-you-wobble-on-thanksgiving\/","title":{"rendered":"The more you gobble, the more you wobble on Thanksgiving"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/sites.jsums.edu\/theflash2025\/files\/2014\/11\/plateoffood.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4888\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.jsums.edu\/theflash2025\/files\/2014\/11\/plateoffood.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"256\" \/><\/a>Dashawna Wright<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>MC 301 Contributor\/Staff<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Jackson State University students and others look forward to this time of the year for many reasons; time when families, the opportunity to give thanks and yes, the food!<\/p>\n<p>While some students are planning to make the trip home for the Thanksgiving holiday, others plan to stay on campus and wait on the December holiday recess to make the trek home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI plan on staying here in Jackson, Miss. because I don\u2019t plan on going home for the holiday,\u201d said Elyse Parks, a freshman history major from Milwaukee, Wisc. \u201cI\u2019m going to just stay here and enjoy time with my friends.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some students cannot wait indulge in the home cooked meals and grandma\u2019s famous sweet potato pie, while a few students are just planning on staying fit and watching their diet.<\/p>\n<p>Avi\u2019yam Jordan, a senior mass communications major from Chicago, Ill. said that she does not plan on in taking too many carbs and protein during the holiday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI plan on eating mostly vegetables like greens, yams, and beans, but I don\u2019t plan on eating a lot of meat,\u201d said Jordan.<\/p>\n<p>Zavier McDaniel, a junior graphic design major from Little Rock, Ark. said he also wants to watch his diet during the Thanksgiving festivities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI got to stay away from my mother\u2019s and grandma\u2019s cooking,\u201d said McDaniel. \u201cI plan to cutting down my carbs, eating more veggies than meat and continuing my workouts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thanksgiving is just one day of the year, so for the people who are dieting, some simply look at this day as a cheat day, a day when you do not worry about caloric intake and weight. However, McDaniel believes people should remain cognizant of the diets during the holidays.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople should still watch their calories during Thanksgiving, whether it is just one day or five minutes.\u00a0 I say this because this is the holiday when people will eat more than they bargain for and intake a lot of calories,\u201d said McDaniel.<\/p>\n<p>Ceaira Wilson, a junior mass communications major from Indianapolis, Ind. gave a tips on how she plans on keeping up with her diet while still enjoying her Thanksgiving dinner.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will drink lots of water and continue to exercise.\u00a0 You can\u2019t forget about fitness because of the holiday,\u201d said Wilson.<\/p>\n<p>Research shows that the average weight gained during Thanksgiving is one pound. The Calorie Control Council estimated that the average American could consume as many as 4,500 calories on Thanksgiving Day.<\/p>\n<p>Although some students will just devour any Thanksgiving dish put in front of their faces, others are still going to watch their diet and make sure that they are staying healthy during the holidays.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dashawna Wright MC 301 Contributor\/Staff Jackson State University students and others look forward to this time of the year for many reasons; time when families, the opportunity to give thanks and yes, the food!
