The accomplishments of our students are worth celebrating so this is just a special part of that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The program began with greetings James C. Renick, senior Vice President of Academic and Student affairs.\u00a0 Marie O\u2019Banner-Jackson, associate dean of University College, read each name of the honorees as they were congratulated by President Meyers and the deans of their respective colleges.<\/p>\n<p>After pinning the left lapels of each student with the official Honors College pin, the honorees recited the oath, led by professor of English, Preselfannie McDaniels.<\/p>\n<p>Closing remarks were delivered by Robert Blaine, Dean of Undergraduate Studies and Cyber Learning. He commended the students for what he called being \u201chard wood, not veneer,\u201d and for their hard work and consistency.<\/p>\n<p>Kyren Garel was one of the students honored during the pinning ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s absolutely phenomenal to be able to be recognized. Coming into college, this is a whole new playing field, and being able to be recognized as a freshman for being in the Honors College is something that is great in itself.
