An array of students from Mississippi and other states visited Jackson State University for the annual Transfer Day.<\/p>\n

Transfer Day is held to personally assist transfer students with their decision to attend Jackson State University and ease their transition into the university.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe recruit all over Mississippi, and actively in Atlanta, Memphis and Detroit,\u201d said Priscilla Slade, special assistant to the provost for International Programs and Community Colleges<\/p>\n

Judy Qualls, coordinator for the JSU Madison campus, commends Jackson State for providing transfer students with many assets as they complete their educational experience.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a community college representative here and every program represented such as financial aid, athletics, international programs, as well as other campuses such as JSU Madison, to answer any questions transfer students may have,\u201d said Qualls.<\/p>\n

The Transfer Ambassadors also assisted the prospective students.<\/p>\n

Stephen Thomas, a junior computer engineering major from Mobile, Ala. is a transfer ambassador who was glad to assist students in choosing Jackson State.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt gives me the opportunity to help people who were in the same situation as I was last year. When I did my tours, I learned how much people don\u2019t really know about the college they\u2019re considering. It\u2019s a process coming as a transfer student,\u201d said Thomas.<\/p>\n

Attendees also included freshmen and a few who decided that it\u2019s never too late to finish a goal.<\/p>\n

Broderick Morris, a graduate of Hinds Community College from Jackson, Miss. decided to continue his education despite his early life experiences.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy major is paralegal technology. I had some life experiences that were negative,\u00a0 so I wanted to go back to school and study law and overturn some of the judges who were against me. I\u2019ll fight for people who may not have a voice for themselves,\u201d said Morris.<\/p>\n

Some students attended the event to get a head start on how to transfer properly and get scholarships.<\/p>\n

Kevonte Askew, a Southwest Community College freshman from Memphis, Tenn. said, \u201cI am currently working to raise my GPA. I\u2019m working with the administration and doing everything I can to get the best possible scholarships.\u201d<\/p>\n

Community college graduates with a GPA of 3.5 or higher can receive the Phi Theta Kappa full tuition and room and board scholarship. Students who have 3.0 are eligible for the full tuition scholarship.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
