{"id":5789,"date":"2015-09-25T15:02:17","date_gmt":"2015-09-25T15:02:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.jsums.edu\/jsuflash\/?p=5789"},"modified":"2015-09-25T15:02:17","modified_gmt":"2015-09-25T15:02:17","slug":"essence-of-a-lady-tiger-group-molds-minds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.jsums.edu\/theflash\/index.php\/2015\/09\/25\/essence-of-a-lady-tiger-group-molds-minds\/","title":{"rendered":"Essence of a Lady Tiger group molds minds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/sites.jsums.edu\/theflash2025\/files\/2015\/09\/FullSizeRender.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-5807\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.jsums.edu\/theflash2025\/files\/2015\/09\/FullSizeRender-294x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"294\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>Jennifer Wiles<br \/>\n<\/strong><em>Staff Writer<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Many people dedicate themselves to mentoring young girls, but there is actually an organization composed of women whose mission is to help mold young ladies into Jacksonian women.<\/p>\n<p>The ladies of Essence of a Lady Tiger (EOLT), teamed up with two Jackson State University class queens, Miss Junior Destiny Harris, and Miss Sophomore Jesslyn Course to mentor freshmen ladies at JSU on Sept. 15 in the Reddix Building General Purpose Room.<\/p>\n<p>Side by side, the women took charge in getting to know the freshmen girls with their intimate forum, \u201cThe Do\u2019s and Don\u2019ts of Freshman Year\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Diamond McCray, a junior political science major from Magnolia, Miss., and one of the hostesses of the event, relies on guidance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey need mentorship! They need mentorship because they\u2019re kind of in their selves and it\u2019s hard for them to come out so they need someone who can help them break out of their shells,\u201d said McCray.<\/p>\n<p>The ladies enjoyed open conversation between EOLT and interested members over cupcakes, cookies, brownies, and juice.<\/p>\n<p>A question\/answer session delved into many trending topics including: \u201cHow do I stay cute and classy on my off days?\u201d and \u201cHow do you ask a guy if he\u2019s been tested?\u201d just to name a few.<\/p>\n<p>General members of EOLT strongly suggested that women should not just ask their partners about whether or not they have been tested but ask what the results were so that there is clarity in the relationship before there is intimacy.<\/p>\n<p>Destiny Harris, a junior biology\/pre-dental major from Memphis, Tenn., believes the freshmen in attendance benefitted from the advice of the upperclassmen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe most important thing that I think the ladies learned is to put themselves first in all situations they have to think about themselves before they can think about anyone else,\u201d said Harris.<\/p>\n<p>Charence Higgins, 2015-2016 Miss Jackson State University and other royal court members also came to support and give advice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are three things you need to keep: One, a mentor, two, someone who inspires you, three, someone you don\u2019t want to be, and four, a mentee,\u201d said Higgins.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jennifer Wiles Staff Writer Many people dedicate themselves to mentoring young girls, but there is actually an organization composed of women whose mission is to help mold young ladies into Jacksonian women.
