{"id":5998,"date":"2015-10-08T15:34:45","date_gmt":"2015-10-08T15:34:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.jsums.edu\/jsuflash\/?p=5998"},"modified":"2015-10-08T15:34:45","modified_gmt":"2015-10-08T15:34:45","slug":"hundreds-attend-jackson-states-high-school-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.jsums.edu\/theflash\/index.php\/2015\/10\/08\/hundreds-attend-jackson-states-high-school-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Hundreds attend Jackson State\u2019s High School Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sites.jsums.edu\/theflash2025\/files\/2015\/10\/DSC_0201.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6007\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.jsums.edu\/theflash2025\/files\/2015\/10\/DSC_0201.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"490\" height=\"327\" \/><\/a>Williams Owens<br \/>\n<em>MC Contributor\/Staff Writer<\/em><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Hundreds of eager high school students from across the state of Mississippi converged on the campus of Jackson State University on Oct. 3.<\/p>\n<p>The annual High School Day event provided opportunities for these students to see what JSU has to offer.<\/p>\n<p>Incoming freshmen and\u00a0 other prospective students were given information from various departments and organizations during the exciting event.<\/p>\n<p>Performances by MADDRAMA, the JSU Dance Ensemble, Blue Ambassadors and Greek organizations kept students attentive, and on the edge of their seats as they were eager to see what was coming next.<\/p>\n<p>Student Support Specialist for JSU\u2019s Upward Bound Program, Courtney Garland, attended with many of the students in her program.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy students enjoyed the variety of information and entertainment provided at High School Day,\u201d said Garland. \u201cThey were elated with the opportunity to go and speak to the different representatives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She added: \u201cThey didn\u2019t think that it was an option to be able to dance without going to a dance school, and to be able to dance in college and receive a degree in something else, and they absolutely loved that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Student Government Association President Rashad Moore, a senior criminal justice major from Jackson, Miss., feels that the exposure from the performing organizations will have a positive affect resulting in students choosing JSU.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe experience that many of the organizations created together today is what truly makes my dear \u2018ole college home so great, and I\u2019m sure after today\u2019s experience it\u2019ll be the college home for many more\u201d, said Moore.<\/p>\n<p>Students concluded the High School program with a tour of Jackson State, and everything it has to offer from the engineering building to the recently built Apple Store.<\/p>\n<p>Students were also given the opportunity to attend the JSU versus Grambling State\u00a0 University football game.<\/p>\n<p>Jesse Gresham, a senior dual major in criminal justice and psychology, believes that High School Day should be a mandatoryl event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHigh School Day helps give different visiting schools the opportunity to explore many great facets of the college life here at JSU, without actually attending the school,\u201d said Gresham.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Photos by William Kelly.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Williams Owens MC Contributor\/Staff Writer Hundreds of eager high school students from across the state of Mississippi converged on the campus of Jackson State University on Oct. 3.
