{"id":6542,"date":"2015-11-19T15:13:19","date_gmt":"2015-11-19T15:13:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.jsums.edu\/jsuflash\/?p=6542"},"modified":"2015-11-19T15:13:19","modified_gmt":"2015-11-19T15:13:19","slug":"dirty-hearts-apparel-more-than-just-a-fashion-brand","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.jsums.edu\/theflash\/index.php\/2015\/11\/19\/dirty-hearts-apparel-more-than-just-a-fashion-brand\/","title":{"rendered":"Dirty Hearts apparel more than just a fashion brand"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/sites.jsums.edu\/theflash2025\/2015\/11\/19\/dirty-hearts-apparel-more-than-just-a-fashion-brand\/unnamed-47\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-6553\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6553\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.jsums.edu\/theflash2025\/files\/2015\/11\/unnamed3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"490\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a>Ashley Hulitt<br \/>\n<\/strong><em>MC Contributor\/Staff Writer<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cLiving in a dirty world with a pure heart birthed Dirty Hearts Apparel,\u201d said James Smith, fashion designer and budding entrepreneur.<\/p>\n<p>Smith wants all who see his collection to feel as if they must have one of his unique fashion pieces.<\/p>\n<p>Smith\u2019s Dirty Hearts brand brings to life his struggle for acceptance as his emblem of love with a large X marked through it, expresses his feelings.<\/p>\n<p>Smith, born and raised in Jackson, Miss., started the Dirty Hearts t-shirt company in 2013.\u00a0 His t-shirts have now become one of the most popular and sought after fashion items for many in Jackson.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDirty Hearts Apparel is a brand I established based on the feeling of love.\u00a0 \u2018No love\u2019 doesn\u2019t necessarily mean I don\u2019t have love in my heart, it\u2019s just the process between finding love and letting your guard down while doing so,\u201d said Smith.<\/p>\n<p>Smith explains how the concept began.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, I had the dream of Dirty Hearts a long time, so I saved up and started off by working at a t-shirt place at the mall.\u00a0 I wanted Dirty Hearts to make a statement for males and females,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Quinika Dubard, better known as \u201cKodak\u201d has been wearing \u201cDirty Hearts\u201d gear since this past year. \u201cI always go to Jay Five when I need something quick and easy to put on, I like the fact that I can tell him exactly what I want on my shirt with the Dirty Hearts symbol included and it just goes from there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Smith explained how he always has to stay ahead of his game.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like to collaborate with my customers, let\u2019s put our ideas together and make something happen in these shirts,\u201d said Smith.<\/p>\n<p>Amber Ferrell, a junior at Jackson State University had a lot to say about Dirty Hearts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was going through a break-up and decided to go out to enjoy myself, and I thought to myself what better way to wear my feelings.
