Adam\u2019s Corner Barbershop<\/strong><\/p>\n

Adam\u2019s Corner Barbershop plays a huge role in the Jackson State University community. The barbershop has been in the same location adjacent to the University for 33 years, just yards from the west entrance.<\/p>\n

Through the years, Adams Corner has become the signature barbershop for many students at JSU. As one of the closest barbershops off-campus, Adam\u2019s Corner gives the students a place to receive haircuts in a familiar atmosphere.<\/p>\n

\u201cAdam\u2019s Corner is so Jackson State because it is a part of JSU\u2019s culture and history. It has been here so long,\u201d said Jordan Scott, a sophomore music education major from Jackson, Miss.<\/p>\n

\"\"Scott, a customer for nearly seven years, stated that the atmosphere and his great barber or why he has remained a faithful customer.<\/p>\n

Goldy Watson, a barber for 23 years and Adams Corner manager, said that a lot of his customers are students.<\/p>\n

From football players to golf players, Watson has had the pleasure of servicing and trimming these students.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s what we get the most joy out of, the Jackson State Students,\u201d said Watson.<\/p>\n

\u201cAdam\u2019s Corner is so Jackson State because they accept the Supercard for haircuts. Also because every other person at JSU goes there,\u201d said Jalen Matthews, a senior mass communication major from New Orleans, La.<\/p>\n

Adam\u2019s Corner is located at 1825 John R. Lynch Street, not far from the infamous \u201cJSU-Loop\u201d and on the same street as Boston\u2019s Fish Supreme.\u00a0 The business hours are Tuesday-Friday 8a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. – 7p.m.<\/p>\n

Gibbs-Green Plaza<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n

The Gibbs-Green Plaza is a classic feature at Jackson State University.\u00a0 Whether serving as a stomping ground for the Pan-Hellenic Greek organizations or the destination for all hotspots, every student, past and present, can testify that many memories were made on \u2018The Plaza\u2019.<\/p>\n

In 1970, tragedy struck the campus of then Jackson College.\u00a0 Two students were killed in the tragedy, Phillip Gibbs and James Green.\u00a0 In memory of the two young men, the plaza that was named in their honor.<\/p>\n

The plaza runs directly through the center of the campus. Its western portion is aligned with plots representing every NPHC Greek letter organization.\u00a0 On each side of the plaza lies several school buildings, and the plaza itself has many benches and seating areas set-up for the leisure of JSU\u2019s students.<\/p>\n

For many students, especially freshmen, this set up jumpstarts their college experience.<\/p>\n

Sha\u2019Ronika Minor, a sophomore criminal justice major from Natchez, Miss. said, \u201cWhat comes to mind when I think about the plaza is all the memories I made freshmen year and all the lifelong friends that I will forever have.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"With so many events occurring along the plaza each semester and so many students sitting out every day on it, regardless of the weather, there is always a crowd or group of people to mingle with.<\/p>\n

\u201cFashion-shows, hotspot, waving, speaking to people, hugging, basically just socializing,\u201d are all things William Kelley, a sophomore mass communication major said can happen on any given day on the Gibbs-Green Plaza.<\/p>\n

Most students agree that the plaza is a place where all students truly enjoy themselves.<\/p>\n

Lamont Harris, a sophomore music major from Jackson, Miss. said, \u201cI think about all the wonderful people out here, you know, just enjoying themselves on the plaza; the hotspots, the events they have sometimes, just a good time.\u201d<\/p>\n

College years are seen as the most enjoyable years in life.\u00a0 The Gibbs-Green Plaza invites the students of Jackson State to a central location to relax, party, and enjoy their college experience.\u00a0 That is why the Gibbs-Green plaza is \u201cSo JSU.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
