The resignation is effective November 1.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We appreciate Dr. Meyers&#8217; service to Jackson State University and wish her well in future endeavors,&#8221; said Commissioner of Higher Education Glenn Boyce via press release.<\/p>\n<p>The Jackson State University National Alumni Association President Yolanda R. Owens echoed the sentiment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnder (Meyers\u2019) leadership, the University has experienced tremendous growth and further established itself as a diverse, technologically-advanced four-year university steeped in history and committed to preparing its students to become global leaders,\u201d said Owens in a press release.<\/p>\n<p>An interim president has not been named. According to the Clarion-Ledger, likely candidates are Rod Paige, former U.S. secretary of education and JSU graduate; James Renick, former JSU provost; and Elayne Hayes-Anthony, dean of the JSU School of Journalism and Media Studies.<\/p>\n<p>A timeline for the presidential search will be announced at a later date.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Students remain our top priority,&#8221; said Boyce. &#8220;We are confident that Jackson State will move forward and continue to be an excellent institution and source of pride for students,\u00a0faculty\u00a0and alumni.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Deirdra Harris Glover Managing Editor\u00a0 Updated Oct. 26, 11:10 a.m. The Mississippi Institutes of Higher Learning accepted a letter of resignation from Jackson State University President Carolyn Meyers.
