As far as my plans, I was gonna surprise the girl I’ve had an eye on with candy and a bear at her door Valentine’s day morning. I might have a hand-written letter explaining how special she is to me. I’m hoping I can take her out to dinner somewhere, not anywhere fancy, or expensive. Just somewhere I can be next to her. That’s all I would want to do, hopefully she doesn’t have a Valentine already.”

Deion Fields, a senior biology pre-pharmacy major, doesn’t celebrate Valentine’s Day.

“I don’t have plans. I think the day is important to women and men only participate to make women happy,” said Fields.

Kelly Rozier, a sophomore finance major from Chicago, Ill., plans to pass the time on this day with friends.

“As of now, my plans are to chill in my room with friends. For the day as a whole, I think it’s a great way to show your affection towards your significant other,” said Rozier.

Don’t have a great guy or girl to celebrate with on Tuesday the 14th? What do you do at a time like this? Here are some ideas on what to do on Valentine’s Day when you’re lacking a significant other. There are quite a few options.

1. Watch stand up comedy: It’s sort of a “laugh to keep from crying” kind of thing. It could potentially distract you from feeling lonely on this day.

2. Have a singles party: You are not the only single person around, believe me. You should gather up your single friends and have a party. You never know. You might just meet someone interesting.

3. Treat yourself: Dance all night, you deserve it. Buy chocolates. Go to a spa. Do something nice for yourself. Be glad you won’t have to fake a smile and thank someone for a cheap teddy bear or those dreadful chocolate covered cherries.

4. Shoot your shot: There will be plenty of lonely people on social media tweeting, posting, tumbling, and snapping about how single they are. Be their knight in shining armor! Slide in the DMs and let someone know you are interested.

5. Have a movie night: Whether you watch movies alone or with others, it will take at least an hour and thirty minutes out of this awful day. Enjoy it. PS. Avoid the ‘Netflix and chill’ lineup, it won’t help.

6. Go to the gym: You will feel better working on yourself. Even after a 30-minute walk on a treadmill, you are better than you were 30 minutes ago. Plus, you might meet someone hot that is also working on being better. Maybe you two can get better together!

7. Read: You can read novels or magazines. Read scary stuff or funny stuff. Read all day or for an hour. It’s a break from your day. Enjoy it.

Darrenlyn Braddy Staff Writer/MC301 We’re living single. It happens.
