Entering theaters on Fri. Mar. 8\u2014 International Women\u2019s Day, Captain Marvel premiered into theaters with impeccable timing.<\/p>\n

The film was directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck who are respectively known for their past work\u2014 \u201cMississippi Grind\u201d (2015), \u201cIt\u2019s Kind of a Funny Story\u201d (2010) and \u201cHalf Nelson\u201d (2006).<\/p>\n

Although Boden and Fleck are not new to the big screen, they\u2019ve yet to have this kind of commercial and box office success in the past.<\/p>\n

Captain Marvel\u2019s budget was $152 \u2013 175 mil., but looks to demolish those numbers as time goes forward.<\/p>\n

The female-led film has surpassed its male superhero counter parts\u2014 \u201cDeadpool\u201d ($783 mil.), \u201cSpider-Man 2\u201d ($784 mil.) and \u201cDeadpool 2\u201d ($785 mil.) according to\u00a0deadline.com.<\/em><\/p>\n

Well on its way to $800 mil. worldwide in a little over two weeks, Captain Marvel will become the No. 18 global superhero film of all time.<\/p>\n

According to\u00a0IMDb<\/em>, the fantasy, science fiction movie focuses on Carol Danvers\u2014 played by Brie Larson, a U.S. Air Force pilot.<\/p>\n

She is an extraterrestrial Kree warrior living on earth in 1995. While there, she finds herself caught in the middle of an intergalactic battle between her people and the Skrulls.<\/p>\n

Nick Fury helps Captain Marvel uncover the secrets of her past while she learns how to fully control her superpowers to end the war with the Skrulls.<\/p>\n

Peter Travers, a film critic for \u201cRolling Stone,\u201d says Larson took on cosmic villains, sexist trolls and won.<\/p>\n

Travers wrote, \u201cThe film\u2019s low-key charm and quirky humor grows on you and creates a rooting interest in what happened next\u2026 Captain Marvel is not just another Wonder Woman. She plans to build an army.\u201d<\/p>\n

Of course you have naysayers who bash the movie based solely on the fact that Larson does not fit the description of the stereotypical superhero many are accustomed to seeing.<\/p>\n

But overall, the 2019 film continues to receive high praise from\u00a0Rotten Tomatoes<\/em>(79 percent),\u00a0IMDb<\/em>(7.1\/10), and\u00a0Metacritic<\/em>(64 percent).<\/p>\n

Asiah Singleton, a sophomore social work major from San Francisco, Calif., appreciated the timing and the casting of the movie.<\/p>\n

\u201cI loved seeing a women lead a superhero movie. Don\u2019t get me wrong, you have wonder woman and cat woman, but it was different. Especially since it\u2019s a marvel movie. It was a great way to kick off National Women\u2019s Month,\u201d said Singleton.<\/p>\n

Olivia Clark, a junior music education major from Jackson, Miss., anticipates how and if the two Captains will get along.<\/p>\n

Clark stated, \u201cI\u2019m really curious to see how this movie is going to tie into the next one\u2014 because I know there is going to be a next one. Captain America and Captain Marvel have similar names so I wonder if they\u2019re going to be working together or against each other.\u201d<\/p>\n

Capri Lane, a senior English major from Houston, Texas says the film was confusing at first, but made sense once the solution was reached.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was so confused at first because of her dreams and the goblin looking people, but it all made sense in the end. That\u2019s what makes for the best movies in my opinion. The ones that always make you say, \u2018Oh!\u2019 and then everything clicks. I might go see it again,\u201d said Lane.<\/p>\n
