{"id":993,"date":"2012-04-02T14:11:36","date_gmt":"2012-04-02T14:11:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.jsums.edu\/jsuflash\/?p=993"},"modified":"2012-04-02T14:11:36","modified_gmt":"2012-04-02T14:11:36","slug":"young-students-participate-in-a-day-out-with-miss-jsu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.jsums.edu\/theflash\/index.php\/2012\/04\/02\/young-students-participate-in-a-day-out-with-miss-jsu\/","title":{"rendered":"Young students participate in \u201dA Day Out\u201d with Miss JSU"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_994\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-994\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sites.jsums.edu\/theflash2025\/files\/2012\/04\/DayOutAlt.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-994\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.jsums.edu\/theflash2025\/files\/2012\/04\/DayOutAlt-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-994\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Miss JSU with middle and high school student participants of the \u201cDay Out with Miss JSU\u201d event.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Diamond Jenkins<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>The Blue &amp; White Flash \/ Staff Writer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mea Ashley, Miss Jackson State University 2011-2012 continued her goal of setting admirable standards by sponsoring \u201cA Day Out\u201d with local middle and high school female students.<\/p>\n<p>The event, which took place on March 3rd, included networking opportunities, valuable information on womanhood and a royal time with the queen.<\/p>\n<p>Ashley\u2019s hopes her platform will inspire students to be leaders and role models for others.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy goal is to enhance the professionalism and success of the students throughout their matriculation in college and in the job market after graduation,\u201d said Ashley, \u201cI want to encourage students to pay attention to the precedent that they set while they are in school,\u201d said Ashley in a previous interview with the Blue and White Flash.<\/p>\n<p>The eventful day started with a series of empowering workshops for the students including: Ice Breakers, Self Esteem Issues, Goal Setting, ACT Preparation, Makeup and Skin Care, Fitness\/Nutrition, Peer Pressure and Girl Talk 101.<\/p>\n<p>Arianna Butler, an 8thth grade student at West Bolivar Middle School in Rosedale, Miss., said \u201cIt was very interesting and there should definitely be more events like this held. It was fun because there are not many events like this around here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Britney walker, a junior at Murrah High School said, \u201cA day out with Mea helped me realize that there are other people going through the same things that I am going through. Just having the open discussion with the poet about social networking and being able to open up with people, talk to older people and get advice from them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Elizabeth Dampier, another \u2018Girls Day Out participant said, \u201cIt was really fun and I was nervous at first, but after the ice breakers I learned a lot about health. I definitely learned a lot from the Girl Talk Session of the workshops and I would want Miss JSU to host more events like this for the community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jackson State students support the queen\u2019s service to the young girls.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a participant in community service, I am happy to know that Miss JSU has offered such a curriculum for these young ladies to learn from her and see what hard work as an advocating student will get you,\u201d said Tenesha Stanley, a junior criminal justice major from Jackson, Miss.<\/p>\n<p>The registration fee of $30 went to Ashley\u2019s Queen Campaign, an endowed scholarship fund established by Ashley to provide scholarships for JSU students.
